One thing people can be assured of - Meyer will not select any player not at his first training camp and he will pick his favoured Blue Bulls players.   He does not care about form in Super 16 and will likely retain Kirchner, Morne Steyn, Kruger and Spies in the team - come hell or high water.    That means that the team selecion will be standard in line with Meyr's poor selection record.   Unless they are injured - there will be little change to what happened last year.   No real game plan - and standard selection practice.

Well seeing as Morne is playing the best rugby out of all the SA fly halves I wouldn't blame Meyer for selecting him over over Pat Lamebie.

Agreed Shezza. Lambie is having an awefull season compared to steyn  and does not eserve to be selected above Morne at this stage. Spies had a very good game against the Kings, maybe it is a return to form for him. Kruger and Kirchener, well. not so sure about them can't even remeber if either of them were at the first training camp though.

No one can really complain if Morne is selected given current form. I doubt whether Vermuelen will be dropped.

Jaundre may start initially with Du Toit on the bench. As Du Toit proves himself and get sa bit of experience he will take over. Meyer will be concerned at having too very young locks starting initially - he maybe right.

A place could be found for Penis Le Roux at 15. Frans may come back. we shall see.

I however dismiss ou maaaikies outrageous attempts to blacken Meyer good name by suggesting he will mindlessly go fo bulle palyers. Shame on ou Maaaaikie!

Beeno

Meyer's selections last year was definitely biased towards Bulls players and anti anyone else.   He made some really hopeless selections and if he continues in sinilar vein the results would be disastrous in the Championships.

Oom Maaik players like Potgieter, Werner Kruger, Hougaard at scrumhalf , Greyling, Wynand and JJ Engelbrecht were deep sixed very promptly. You have some that moan about Hougaard and JJ being dropped too quickly, others saying he favours Bools players. Face it...in SA the coach doesn't stand a chance....until he leaves, and then we see his good points. This happened to Du Plessis, Mallett, White.....Straueli and PdV not so much.

Finding agreement between posters on this site about Bok selection is nigh impossible...but if the coach chooses 3 players a poster doesn't like the coach is a fool.

The fact is by YE Meyer had it mostly right. And now posters want him to discard all that and start again based on S15 form. He would really be foolish if he complied.

Moz I struggle to see how you can say that Meyer got it mostly right on the EOYT. We struggled to beat a depleted Irish side, we were then even worse against Scotland of all sides and snuck home against England.

We were awful on that tour. Yes we won all three but the only real challenge should have been England. We made Ireland and Scotland look good that tour.

Meyer last year did not have it mostly right and definitely not on the EOYT.   The list of players he picked contained too many names of players that were bench players for their franchises and could not even make the starting teams - dunces like Van der Linde being an example.    The end result was just not acceptable.   There is something like the quality of wins.    Scotland lost the game they played against Tonga by a much bigger margin than SA beat them by and the Springboks could have lost that game easily, because of the quality of rugby they produced.   Ireland was weak and that was proven in the latest Six-Nations tournament.   And England was beaten easily by Australia and this year by Wales.   They have a record of yo-yo games - can be very strong in some cases and weak in others.   We got the win on an off-day for them as well.

I think if you look at overall selections last year - you must at least accept that selection was as you put it yourself a revolving door and that was mostly the case with Bulls players.    Why were those selfsame players dubious in Super 15 and thens elected for the Springbok side?   Players like most of those named was poor and had negative performance indicators in Super 15 - yet they were selected by Meyer.   What did he base his selection criteria on?

Meyer himself admitted that he made selection errors and now is back with those selfsame errors.   That type of thing is based on criteria not refected based on performances.  Last year he disregarded performances and negative indicators and selected players on dubious performance grounds.  This year  is doing the exact the same - by ignoring performances of players in Super 15 - and the bugger-ups will be clearly spelt out in as poor record as was the case last year - with the exception that we will lose both games against Australia and the draw against Argentina will also be a loss.

It is only the extremely ignorant that disregard proven performances and rely on under-achievers to build a team from.   That list of players invited to the training camp was embarrassing and some players were really not even frontline players for their franchises.    How do you account the situation with regard to players like Kankowski, Jannie du Plessis, etc.

I forsee disaster in what Meyer is doing this year if his training camp is anything to go by.   The tragedy is he can do better - but is so set in his ways that he cannot adjust and correct mistakes.    The only people enjoying the present show are the apposition in the Championship.  They must really think Christmas is coming in August- September this year.

The end result wasn't acceptable? Would you rather have lost as the Aussies and ABs did? Oom Maaik the choice of Steenkamp was totally justified as he bested Old King Cole, touted to be the worlds best by some.  CJ has always been injury prone, so that was dicier, but still justified

And do we punish Meyer because he admitted to some mistakes. I thought we value honesty and the confidence to reverse direction if necessary.

This Meyer vendetta is childish. You and Dave agree on some players, and probably both disagree on more players between each other, than you each disagree with Meyer. So if you got your perfect coach who agreed with every one of your rants....Dave would be even more unhappy. Grow up, you will never get your perfect coach.

You really are amazing.   Van der Linde neever made the starting line up of the Lions last year and came off the benchh a few times.   Now to discover he was injury prone and then come up with that excuse for his failure is really amazing.b  Van der Linde was atrocious in the Irsish test.

In the Scottish test Steenkamp was poor and if you would have accepted the stats on that game I would have posted it.   He was so poor that he was replaced just after halftime.   In the English test he was slightly better - but the scrmmaging was not as successful as you made it out to be.   The Springboks were often pushed back - but still managed to recover the ball.  That does not reflect "bested King Cole"  - must be in your imagination and he never did that and that is a fact.   Stenkamp got in because of his earlier Bulls connection only - he frequently does not make the Toulouse starting line-up and that is alsoa fact.

If he admitted he made mistakes - and correct them with his first available opportunity - he should be excused.  If he keeps repeating the same kind of thing then one bgins to wonder about donkeyism   All indications are that Meyer disregarded performances in Super 15 last year and he is doing exactly the same this year.

@Chippo

There has been some tampering here Chippo - "A place could be found for Penis Le Roux at 15. Frans may come back. we shall see".

Chippo I can assure you I typed Willie!!! I also NEVER use predicative text as I find it very annoying!

Some mischevious blogger has been busy and I fear we have not seen the last of the oak. Its either ED amusing himself or someone has hacked the system so they can change text . If the system has been hacked then I nominate ou windpomp as a prime suspect followed by that well know rascal rooitwit.

The kiwis would if they could but know not how!

However one does trust this is merely a one off and the oak concerned will find better ways of using his time!
