I just wanted to know what your thoughts were in regards to what you guys think the main squad will look like ????
Springbok Squad for Castle Champs
As I predicted - the squad is going to be announced Saturday afternoon at a press conference in of all places Worcester. Bet it will be criticized endlessly. It may even be influenced by the perormance against the Chiefs. There are some players that could make their name in that game.
I predict that the following players will be in the squad:-
Backline : Kirchner, Lambie, Ndugwane, Mvovo, Pietersen, Habana, De Villiers, Francois Steyn, Morne Steyn, Hougaard, Pienaar. Outside chances would be Engelbrecht, Jordaan and Grant
Forwards : Spies. Kankowski (not sure if he would be available due to contract), Coetzee, Alberts, Daneel, Vermeulen (I believe Meyer likes him as a player), Etzebeth, Bekker, Flip van der Merwe, Beast, Jannie Du Plessis, Oosthuizen (do not know when he will be back to play), Bismarck and Strauss. If Oosthuizen is not available WP Nel may come into the squad. I think that players with outside chances are Kitshoff, Jacques Potgieter and Bressler may also be in the squad. I do not think that Meyer rates Brussow as a loosie and he my be out again.
like your squad mike....it a tough call on a certain amount of senior players but to be fair i will personally draft grant in and try to blood him into the comp because the last thing we need is a off the boil 10 playing. that being said HM might head the jantjies route. which i think will be a massive mistake but we will have to wait and see.
i think vermeulen is in but do you want to chance playing a player that has been out for so long. jacques potgieter is rubbish in my view. soft player i just do not like his playing style at all. he offers nothing special.
but going into the champs without a fecther will be our biggest mistake that we can make. against the pumas one can get away with it to a extent but the AB and wallies will be licking there lips come breakdown time. i am a big bundit of playing a fecther for various reasons but if we dont look at that area we will be neutralised by the pococks and mccaws of the world.
i might start pienaar ahead of hougaard just to try and give some options on the bench. i really hope HM picks jordaan kitshoff and more juinor players to help build depth and to build a group of 30+ players towards getting a decent squad to RWC 2015
Assuming all were fit this would be a good squad of thirty:
Coenie, Beast, Bismark, Liebenberg, Du Plessis, WP Nel. Bekker, Etzebeth, Bressler and Flip Burger, Coetzee, Vermulen, Kan Kan, Alberts and Elstadt Hougaard and Vermaak, Goosen and Morne Frans, Jean, Jordaan and Taute Habana, JP, JJ and Mvovo Lambie and Daniller (Underrated player) Sorry snapster I would first let the excellent youngsters like Du Toit and Serfontein etc have a season in Super 15 before considering them. Even Kitshoff I would hold back another year. One exception may however in fact be Serfontein. However one cannot assess him purely on juniour form. We saw how out of depth DuToit was. Great prospect but not now.fair comment beeno
vermeulen en burger will be short of match practice but i am sure they can somehow get themselves going. they are pro's and a start against the pumas might just be what the doctor ordered.
i ike your lose trio but i cant help but feel there need to be more a dynamic loseward to complement the likes of alberts and vermeulen.. i dont like the balance of the lose trio but that being said HM wil only pick big heavy lose trio and it might be his downfall
the backs looks decent and i like the look of it. the juniors needs to be pulled in and blooded and sometime i feel
Muncher I do have Coetzze and Kan Kan who supply the pace. To cover all bases maybe a spot for Brussouw?
The youngsters need time in the Currie Cup and Super 15. That is quite enough of a step up for 1 year.
Guys like JJ and Jordaan, Taute etc at least have been playing senior rugby and can be eased in.
