Springbok team Announcement for Portugal
I don't know why some of these players are even in the team and wonder whether it is just another cap being thrown away.
In the backline, I question why Reinach, at 35 is being selected and why Mapimpi is still even in the team.
See Libbok is back, I still have questions over him and would have just started with Feinberg as a 10 and let him have a season to be the boks backup if that is the plan. Manie has now slipped down to 5 on my list. Yes, he has some fantastic hands and stepping ability. Good punter, but poor goal kicker and lose the ball in contact to often. His defence is really weak too.
Pepsi is not an 6, he is a decent player but not international quality.
Why on earth is Moerat even captain. He has never impressed me at all. He is slow, not a great ball carrier or even any good at the line out. Between him and Dweeb, they are the single reason why the stormers line outs fail so often.
Nice to see Du Toit back back for the boks. But why on earth is Fat Trev still in the team, another 35 year old sucking up air. We have plenty of props now.
Mchunu, the verdict is still out on him as scrummager, but I like what I saw of him in the Saarks last few games.
I think Rassie had to still meet some quota targets, probably the only reason why Trev is still there.
I hope Am can find his magic. Nice to see him and Esterhuizen finally pairing up. The two of them compliment each other really well and we hopefully will see more from Am.
Not sure why Jan-Hendrik has been selected at prop. He folded in halve when he played there two years ago.
Finally, Grobbies is on the park. I think he should have been capped 2 years ago and not wasted their time with Dweeb as window dressing.
We could have moved Fassi to wing and Horn and full back.
I don't think we will learn much from this game to be honest.
I wish we had some proper tours or mid week games. I would have been great to have the Ireland A play SA A.
Eluckmiss is really struggling with this team renewal thing…this team is a polyglot of about 5 different agendas,
My 5 cents:
15 Aphelele Fassi
A good selection, He needs more game time. He is excellent under the high ball and perhaps the best playmaker next to Willie Leroux
14 Kurt-Lee Arendse-
Good selection, but not sure if Moodie is still injured.
13 Lukhanyo Am -
Good selection, Back from injury, makes sense to start him with an easier game.
12 Andre Esterhuizen
Good selection. An Excellent club player, but somehow has not been as consistent at test level. He needs to bring his all-around play to test rugby
11 Makazole Mapimpi
A bad selection. It is time to move on.
10 Manie Libbok
A good selection. His only issue is polekicking.
9 Cobus Reinach
A bad selection. The Boks have depth at 9, bring in more talent
8 Evan Roos
Good selection. He needs to have a good game to play himself into the main team
7 Ben-Jason Dixon
TBC
6 Phepsi Buthelezi
Is he test level?
5 RG Snyman
Good selection, but needs more game time
4 Salmaan Moerat (c)
A good selection, but has to prove more.
3 Thomas du Toit
A good selection, but I have always felt he should have stayed at loosehead.
2 Johan Grobbelaar,
Good selection
1 Jan-Hendrik Wessels.
TBA
Subs: 16 Andre-Hugo Venter,
About time he got a run
17 Ntuthuko Mchunu,
TBC
18 Trevor Nyakane
Why is this advert for KFC still in the squad.
19 Ruan Venter
20 Elrigh Louw
Good selection. Needs more game time
21 Morne van den Berg
22 Sacha Feinberg-Mngomezulu
Good selection, unfortunate not to start at 10.
23 Quan Horn.
TBA
An Excellent club player, but somehow has not been as consistent at test level. He needs to bring his all-around play to test rugby
They should have stuck with Esterhuizen after he destroyed Aus in 2018. Nothing wrong with his test performances, especially considering the deal he's getting as bag carrier/very very part timer. Unfortunately DDA has some kind of glue to his ass.
Reinach and Arendse are strange selections. I would have given whatsisname that played against Wales a run again. Edwill. And Williams could have had a proper game. Reinach is not going to the next WC. Don't know much about some of the young forwards so can't comment.
Dave you have to admit this team selection is just plain stupid.
Rassie must have been pissed to select such a team.
Moerat is the Captain for the test as well, I ask you.
Edwill is injured …
Ah yes, I recall something like that now.
"Eluckmiss is really struggling with this team renewal thing…this team is a polyglot of about 5 different agendas,"
Have to agree. This isn't even an A or B side...this isn't a twam. A few fringe players and has-beens thrown together...nonsensical, can't understand what he thinks he can accomplish...can't spot the method in this madness...but he's probably got some sort of agenda...
