Springboks Brits: Boks in safe hands under Rassie

Rassie has grasped a very poisonous cup oaks but he is about the one person who has any chance of pulling unlikely success off.

Cape Town - Former Springbok hooker Schalk Brits is confident that Rassie Erasmus will get off to a successful start as national coach.

Erasmus’ Boks have a tough month ahead of them, starting with a Test against Wales in Washington DC this Saturday (June 2), before three consecutive home Tests against England starting the following week.

Erasmus on Monday named a 26-man squad for the trip to America, with the other 17 preparing for the England series.

It’s four weeks back-to-back to start the international season, but Brits feels the Boks are in capable hands under Erasmus’ guidance.

“Rassie is the best technical coach I’ve worked with, so if there’s someone who could do it, then it’s Rassie and his management team,” Brits told Netwerk24. (Exactly what Beeno has been saying!)

The 37-year-old Brits played under Erasmus when the latter coached the Stormers in the 2008 and 2009 seasons.

Brits’ career ended on a high note over the weekend when his English side, Saracens, beat Exeter Chiefs 27-10 in the Premiership final at Twickenham.

He was recently quoted as saying England were the favourites to beat the Springboks in the upcoming series but he claims he was misquoted.

Earlier in the month the RugbyPass website quoted the 10-Test capped Brits as saying: “England didn’t have a great Six Nations but they definitely go to South Africa as favourites because they have a squad that has been together for a long time.”

In his latest interview over the weekend, Brits stated: “What I did say, is England would have more momentum. Rassie doesn’t have a lot of time to establish a culture and put structures in place. Eddie Jones (England coach) has been working with his players for a long time. But there’s a reason why England have never won a series in South Africa. We’re a proud nation and often at our best when our backs are against the wall.”

The first Test between South Africa and England is scheduled for Ellis Park in Johannesburg on June 9, followed by Tests in Bloemfontein (Free State Stadium, June 16) and Cape Town (Newlands, June 23).

Either Rassie is being screwed or he may enjoy being screwed,  I suspect he may be waiting for the loss of the  Washington test as an excuse to get rid of most of the useless lot he selected,     There will only be 11 players from the Washington squad to be retained for the other tests.   

I think the Welsh have enough good players to beat the SA squad anyway and that loss may just strengthen Rassie's hand in dealing with the politicos.          

They are Mozart - they are.  I can see at least two top loosies and a lock playing for Japan next year and some are in Scotland as well.  There are players already in France and England that would turn out for those two teams in years to come.

The flood would accelerate sooner than we think.

Rassie has dished himself up a plate of troubled times. He has made a big mistake in selecting that 3rd rate quota as his captain. Now he's forced to stick with him no matter how poorly he performs. All hell will break lose the moment he fires him. I can only imagine what will be said if he drops him altogether from the match 23.

Also ... by selecting this useless quota at 6, he's limited his strategy and can no longer target the breakdown as a means of getting his team of quotas on the front foot.

Bismarck is old and half the man he was. None of the other hookers that he selected target the breakdown quite like Marx does ... and so we're left with a problem.

England are going to have more ball than they know what to do with and we're going to watch as they launch Billy Vunipola through the revolving door that is De Allende. It will be even funnier to see how well Jantjies copes with Vunipola.

No doubt Rassie's been receiving a lot of pats on the back since yesterday. He's probably loving every moment of it. Well ... let's see how long the hero worship lasts. I suspect it'll come to a grinding halt when England leave with a historic whitewash.

I'll tell you how long it will last....for as long as club player Kolisi is captain and for as long as there's a 50% black representation. SARU and the ANC don't give a toss about winning, winning you should know by now is not a priority....don't fall for that trick.....as an example have a look at how they've dressed up the SOE with incompetents ......it's about getting  their vote scoring quota numbers up in every avenue whether that be government dept's, industry or in sport.

Ellis genge will probably be the most destructive runner over the series. The dude is is like one of those yellow skips on friggin rollerskates with a rocket up his arse.
