The draw for the 2019 RWC is underway and the Springboks and All Blacks will be in the same group.
Here's how the seeded teams fared:
Group A
Ireland
Scotland
Japan
Group B
New Zealand
South Africa
Italy
Group C
England
France
Argentina
Group D
Australia
Wales
Georgia
The Irish and Ozzies must be grinning from ear to ear!
PS Two minnow teams to be added to each group. In some cases they still need to play off so can't update groups yet.

Yes, I thought all the Italy and Japan jokes might come out . . . anyone got anything else to add?
At any given RWC, I'm hoping it'll be a Springboks vs All Blacks final. The fact that we're meeting the All Blacks in the group stages means that if we do meet again it'll be in the final. Not all bad as far as I'm concerned.
Still think the Irish and the Ozzies have by far the easiest pools . . . hope they get Samoa and Fiji!

With Coetzee as coach a loss against Italy may occur - so lets hope the idiot is gone. One would have to see who the minor teams are - but our chances to reach the play-offs will be reduced drastically since by 2019 on present path we will be lower than 10 in the World rankings if Coetzee continues as coach and if the 50% racial quota remains in place.

Ozzies wont like playing against Wales, especially if their players perform anything like they are this year. Still a few years to go anything could happen. SA might find its mojo by then and we could be riddled with injuries. RWC, anything is possible
10 May 2017, 12:11#12
With a little luck the Italians will end up second and the Goats can come home early.
By that time we'll be riddle with a 50% quota margin.
Gooo Italy!!!!

Pretty good draw for the Boks. Playing the ABs in the pool will get them motivated early .....get the final selections right early. And who knows, if we beat them we get Scotland in the QF.
10 May 2017, 14:40#16
I suppose we can all dream.
No more quotas ... no more 50% enforced black representation ... no more Coetzee ... no more political interference ... Eddie Jones as head coach ... and our best players selected.

This has worked out as a great draw for the Boks.
Sure the All Blacks will wallop them- but the other teams will not- assuming a decent team and coach is in the setup.
Although, at this stage, it is unclear what the Springboks will be by 2019.
Our most promising new players are routinely going overseas even before getting a Springbok call-up- and will not be eligible for 2019.
In 2023- if transformation all goes to plan it will be +50% black Africans, +25% players of colour, and less than 25% white players.
Then in 2027, it will be +80% Black Africans, 10% players of colour, and -10% white players.
This would not be a problem if the best players happened to mostly be black.
However, rugby is still a game where the majority of people that follow and play the game- have Afrikaans as their primary language. (This applies to players of colour- and white/caucasian). No black Africans have Afrikaans as their primary language.
10 May 2017, 15:22#18
I was hoping we would get Ireland, but playing the all blacks is not bad. I would either play them in the Final or in a pool stage. Better than playing them in the quarters and going home early.
If we can get it right, we could have an easy road to the semi's. Ireland is good but they are not consistent but don't depth either.
I hope that Coetzee fails come june and Jake comes back. That is our only hope to make an impact at this world cup or we will suffer the same fate as back in 2003.

You mean taking a team, the Sharks, who were nowhere in 2013 to the semi's in 2014.......after taking the Brumbies a team that was nowhere to the finals in 2013.

You are wrong again. The Sharks were in the SR final in 2012 and had a horrific injury problem in 2013 with at one stage 19 of their 36 players on an injury list and they and to borrow players from other franchises (mostly the Lions) to be able to field full teams in games.
White took over and by a fluke get through to the semi-final where the Shark was beaten by the Crusaders by a record margin. Would not touch on that one since he was effectively fired for vey good reasons by the Sharks management in 2014.

I am pleased by the draw for the Abs. Every WC they have minnows. Okay still a minnow in the Boks lol, I kid. But having a toughish game heading into the QF. Be good for the abs. I am sure the Boks by 2019 should be at least decent again, well we hope haha.

Jake White is his own person.......it's a problem for SARU, he won't suffer their Shyte. SARU enjoys mediocrity because they are mediocre..... toe the line is the call.
As the saying goes...you cannot fit a square peg into a round hole so any thoughts of a JW return is just a dream.
Clearly his strength is not backline coaching and it doesn't need to be but the sum total of his other strengths eg discipline, strategy, set pieces and coordinating those strengths to a high level is what made him a top class coach. Noticeable in a JW team is that every player knows his role and it's clinical one at that.
Sure he got some wrong, just like every other coach, told me that himself but he learns from his mistakes.
With the right support staff, like a defensive and a backline coach in place I guess you'd have to agree that right now he'd inspire hope in the fans, far more than a Meyer, Coetzee or that other drol, Piet I think I is (F%%k can't even remember his name)
11 May 2017, 09:41#28
It's confirmed ... Comrade prefers Coetzee over Jake White.
Now let that be the end of it.
12 May 2017, 06:14#29
Well the Boks wont have to meet the ABs till the finals ,if both make it that far of course .Both sides could do with a tough game before the quarters.
12 May 2017, 09:12#30
Ward, only the Boks will have a tough game before the quarters....

Mr BlueBok it may be just nostalgia for some but most of us Kiwis still respect the Bokkie .All it takes is a decent coach and a free hand in selections and your there .

wassup warhammer,
a couple of things to mention
- the Boks have a chance to claim a famous scalp and become the first team to beat the All Blacks in a RWC pool stage where the ABs are the only team to have a 100% win record. its funny when u consider weve had 4 different RWC winners, and only 1 undefeated team in the pool stages, lolz.
- imo one more likely scenario i can see coetzee applying to the Boks is they write off the All Blacks team as a loss and he fields his weakest Bok team when facing them.
my thinking is coetzee is gonna be under pressure to make the rwc q-finals, especially if the current form of the Boks continues. so when u factor in italy whose confidence will be boosted by their upset over the Boks last year, a japanese like upset could very well be on the cards, and something that im sure even coetzee will be considering.
i wouldnt be surprised if the italians applied this line of thinking to themselves.

I think Coetzee could be shelved by then, I think we'll lose the series against the French and the public pressure will be too much and they'll have to give him the boot.
From 2015 to now we should have been slowly building towards and finding our best team and combinations for 2019. Instead we've achieved nothing, we don't know our best team, we've regressed badly.
Now there's 2 ways we have to approach this:
Say 2019 is a write-off and get a coach with a clear plan and we build towards 2023 with a distinct style of play (Ackers and his team would be the dream, but he's off to England)
OR we get in a win at all costs coach (Jake White) and go all out to win this thing in 2019.
I'd hope we go for the first option and aim to build some sort of legacy, hopefully we'll host the world cup in 2023, South Africa rugby is in on the rocks, public confidence is low, it's got shades of '95.

i cant see coetzee going anywhere, no matter how great the public pressure. imo hes there until the end of the RWC.
i think jake white is done in regards to the Boks. his RWC win was a good effort, but like nearly all RWCs, its always about will a team upset the All Blacks? the rest of whites record was a big meh and even PDV had a better overall record than him.
but more importantly than taht, white just dosent have the modern day coaching skills to really improve the Boks
ackers is the only real saffa answer for the Boks, but there are solid options outside of SA too like dave rennie.
its too bad the SARU board are just as kak as coetzee.

I hope you're not right, I just don't see how they could justify losing a france test series at home...but I mean they justified hiring him so anything's possible.
I agree, I'm not a big Jake White fan but he'd definitely improve us compared to the dross Coetzee is serving up.
Rightly or wrongly, I don't think SARU would hire a foreigner as coach. Would like to see a new zealander on board just to see what sort of rugby we could play with a decent coach.
Becs was really upset when they got a foreigner in Jones but look how well that turned out for them. It's nice to see the passion guys like Meyer and Coetzee show and I don't doubt either would die for their country but ultimately that doesn't paper over their ability to make us world beaters.
16 May 2017, 10:03#36
Acker is not the answer as Bok coach.
His experience as a coach on every level pales in comparison to that of say Jones.
We need a Jones type.

There might be a good coach in Deon Davids staring us in the face...who knows?
I've always believed it's the greatest measure of a coach if he can take a team of nothing players to a team of something players, he's done as much single-handedly with the Kings.
16 May 2017, 15:48#38
Denny, I agree 100%. Exactly the same can be said for Ackerman. The problem with both men is that neither has enough experience. It will be interesting to see if Ackerman can replicate his heroics with the Lions, up North. We shall see, but I think he will.

That is if the Boks get past Italy.
Worth investing a dollar or two at this stage.
