Springboks vs All Blacks . . .

A rugby test match between the Springboks and the All Blacks remains one of the great sporting events in the world but, sadly, they're not what they used to be. Before I'm accused of heresy, let me explain . . .

Firstly, the fact that we play one another at least twice every year has taken some of the shine off this contest in my opinion. Back in the days when we had good old fashioned tours and only played one another every 4 years or so, there was always the unknown factor . . . new players that we'd never seen play or even heard of. In the professional era, we know one another all too well . . . not only through playing more regular test matches against one another, but also because we get to know one another's players through Super rugby.

Secondly, there's no denying the All Black dominance since isolation which has seen the contest become a little one-sided during the last two decades. Before isolation the Springboks were leading the All Blacks 20-15 (with 2 draws) in the head-to-head between the two countries. From isolation onwards it's been 33-14 (with 1 draw) to the All Blacks.

Having said all that, Saturday's test match is arguably the biggest  game between the two countries since the 1995 RWC final and I'm as excited for this game as I was when I was a kid back in 1970 and 1976! Both teams are in great form and the stakes are about as high as they get these days outside of a RWC tournament. The Springboks have had to rely on the odd unexpected away win against the All Blacks but for the first time in ages, we're going into the away game giving ourselves a decent shot at winning.

I reckon its going to be very close but I'm going to stick my neck out and tip the Springboks to put one over the old enemy . . . not because Richie McCaw won't be playing, but because I'm sincerely hoping that the All Black players have the same perception as the Kiwi posters on here that their team doesn't have any weaknesses. I'm not claiming I've identified any chinks in the All Black armour but what I am saying is that if any team is going to expose those weaknesses and pop the aura of invincibility they seem to have at the moment, it's a hungry, motivated and in-form Springbok team.

However if you are going to post on this board, you do need at the very least follow rugby conventions.

Good original post Rooi, can't fault your logic. Under normal circumstances one would be foolish to bet against the All Blacks at home, but the Boks really are in a position to turn things around. I am a little concerned about the Bok's ability to carry form from one game to the next, but they do have themselves in a usefull position.

As a result I have not even looked at my team in the last week, and have not taken the time to firgure out how to actually play effectively. I am not usually such a flake. I'll try to turn things around in the last couple of rounds.

Bluebok, I read your post and then I immediately went to the Foxsport website to make sure that my team - which I've updated with thought and care - was actually ahead of your team which you've neglected hopelessly. All I can say is "whew"!

The Lightbringers are having to accept mid-table mediocrity yet again but that's still a lot better than the hapless Blue Balls!

When I was there I also noticed that I dropped a few points since I last looked. Seems they found a few Julian Savea errors since they updated the scores which has cost me a few points and allowed the dreaded Uzumaki Clan to overtake me in the standings!

Good post Rooi, enjoyed that. Its a pity the Boks have let it slip so post isolation........too many poor Bok team selections over the years in my opinion.

The AB's tend to get their selections mostly right, whereas the Boks tend to sell themselves short
