In this clip he explains why and how Pollard contributes and in doing so, why he is essential to the Boks in the WC. The fact that Rasmus chose 4 scrumhalves and not Pollard is inexplicable….but he was rescued by the Marx injury.
Squidge calls Pollard the best knockout player in world rugby
I thought you don’t rate Squidge?
But he's right about Pollard and a few other things.
Pollard is one of our best flyhalves. In a close match bring him on.
With proper handling and barring injuries he will be fine for next RWC.
Dave, I'd never try humour on you. For the same reason that I wouldn't try teaching my dogs physics.
The point he makes here is Pollard is a better kicker, the more important the kick. But more to the point, he recognizes Pollard’s match management….his choice of options…..the focus on getting the job done. He kicks tactically with a specific purpose…not just automatically. Some of the examples are a bit overcooked….but the point is correct.
Imagine the calming effect on the team when Pollard comes on to replace the obviously nervous Libbok.
Leaving this player out of the team, with the only reprieve being a WC ending injury to another player was really stupid.
Starting him against the ABs was obviously right, easily proved because he weighs more than Libbok.
