15. Lambie - Caught many pundits by surprise, we might have seen it coming given his cameos at fullback during the season. A solid last line, better than zane, willie is more involved from wing, aplon was picked as injury cover, other candidates such as SP Marais are not on tour. 11/14. Habana/JP - Bryan picks himself, perceived solidness of JP preferred to Willie. Other candidates as of yet dont have the class or the consistency, mapoe, mvovo, volminck, rhule, basson. 13. Jaque - Must have been a close call with JJ, question marks regarding form, Meyer must favour him as he hasnt even been part of the broad squad thus far, can really only judge after Wales. Squad inclusion logical given injuries to Jordaan, Hanekom and lack of form De Jongh. 12. Jean - Picks himself with Jan as apprentice. Hopefully a resurgent Frans to provide competition moving forward. 10. Morne - Given Lambie at 15 and Goosen not playing much it is a logical choice given touring party. Cat staying home certainly gives the coach options to think about. 9. Du Preez - A cut above squad options. Pienaar may be under threat if Van Zyl, Reinach excert themselves or if Vermaak trends at Toulouse. 8. Duane - In a league of his own given depth. Will Botha be an 8 or 7, Stander might be the next best and Vd Walt is a hard nut. 7. Alberts - Coach prefers a ball carrier to start off with. Faces a big challenge from Botha. Quicker Kolisi, Coetzee, Lappies to back up and impact. 6. Flouw - Picks himself. No real competition as Fourie, Stegmann, Minnie are all penalty machines. The real backups are the quicker 7s who make lots of tackles. 5. Flip - A stop gap for continuity. Du Toit to take over with De Jager and Franco challenging from a distance. 4. Eben - Picks himself. Flip a distant backup and Bakkies on tour providing knowledge and is a better option than the other 4s left at home. 3. Malherbe - Deserves a shot but could easily have been Adriaanse. Beyond Jannie and touring party our depth is a concern. Nyakane in there somewhere as the latest two-sided prop experiment. 2. Bissie - Picks himself just ahead of Strauss. Visagie would probably be next in line. 1. Beast - Still marginally the best with Coenie breathing down his next. Must be the last squad invite for Guthro as Kitshoff looks a good back up bet.

Think Vermaak is out of the Bok fold, even if he performs well in France he'll be ignored as does Rory Kockett.
Lappies is the best option for 7 and I'd prefer to see Arno Botha at 8, but I believe Meyer will use him as a 7, as will the Bulls because of Spies being their Captain and the amount of loosies that have left.

Lappies is a nice provincial player, whose missed tackle on Lambie ended the Cheetahs season.

Nice provincial player that is our best bet for good 7 internationally.
Moz, will your mind by changed if he has just as good of a season next year that he's had this year? Or do you just dislike him because he threatens Alberts position.

Look Sheeza I don't dislike any of these players personally. Well maybe Fury a little bit, it was so disgusting when he talked about being the best centre in the world, when he had a better centre and a long term partner playing inside him.
In terms of potential newbies like Labuschagne I try and project what they would do in a Bok jersey. Firstly by analogy...and the best example is probably Coetzee, who certainly wasn't adequate. Secondly by weighing strengths and weaknesses. In that context he is certainly fast and a good lineout jumper, but a poor fetcher and not physical in any sense. I can't think of one established international flank who is not a physical monster....it's a charnel house out there.
So no it's not personal, I think his strengths are not crucial for an international flank and his weaknesses are. And other fast players, somewhat similar to him...like Daniel and Coetzee....have failed

 Lydiate, Warburton and Filatau opperate as a unit and it is going to be great to see. We have a cart hourse and two great individuals. It is going to be great to see how the two opposing theories compare. I think the unit approach is better though.

It is my belief as well that with all the departing bulls that arno will settle in at 7. If he performs he may well unseat alberts in the national team. He also has all the attributes with regards to mozart's strengths and weaknesses argument. When it comes to Vermaak, he is already capped and therefore cant be discounted, Chiliboy is in much the same position with regards to the broader squad. Flip's place in the squad is safe if we dont select bakkies moving forward

Mozart

The miss tackle by Lappies - the best tackler by a mile in Super 15 - was never a realistic tackle - you dumb old nut.  He was not near enough to tackle Lambie and that was confirmed time and again on review - he never attempted a tackle - so how could it be a missed tackle.

This reminds me of missed tackles - did Morne not miss a tackle on Barrett when he was much nearer to him and even slapped  him on his back to wish him well?   But Morne is forgiven because of a real miss tackle and Labuschagne is blamed for a missed tackle that never occurred.

Fetcher Coetzee is not - Labuschagne definitely is - you are fully aware of the situation.    In the whole of Super 15 the turnovers in possession was as follows:-

         Labuschagne     =     14

         Messam            =       6

         Read                =       8

         Alberts             =       0

How can a player make turnovers in possession when he is not a fetcher and make more than other top internationals?   Why is fetching then a requirement in Labuscgane's case and not in Alberts case?  Why is Alberts acceptable when he never makes a turnover or never even affect one ball recovery in breakdowns and never protect tackled players to ensure ball retention?

O yes - Alberts is a physical monster - but he is not a tackler of note - lets just think about Read and the two Samoans who scored tries just running around him.   Your physical monster has serious flaws.  He is to quote your words a "charnel house out there".

Part of Mozart's normal nutty approach and expected from him when he dislikes a player totally without reason - and use lies to justify his stand.

Yes - in your own words - you dislike Fourie - but you dislike Engelbrecht more - so now Fourie is your favourite again.

 Under the circumstances I would select Aplon ahead of Lambie, he offers far more and has a proven track record at test level. Lambie is very solid under the high ball, though he hasn't really been targeted in that area - but that again, more than likely emphasizes the point. Defence however is a very grave concern, a very hesitant and passive defender. His decision making at 15 is as poor as that of 10. If Fourie has bad game in his first test outing then Lambie will be a big problem. JP needs a tremendous game as, to be honest, he has never produced the level of play that Willie has this year.

Our options are:

At fullback......the best options are Taute, Willie, Lambie and Frans........with SP Marais looking a real candidate. Visser of the Bulls looks a good prospect as well. Andries Coetzee of Lions is another, who moved to 12 at the end of the CC season. Baby Bok Jessie Kriel looks like the youngster for the future. We are well covered at fullback.

On the wing, JP and Habana stand alone. I prefer Willie as 15 as he does not have the sheer pace of a wing, but he useful on the wing.There are a handful of youngsters who need to step up and show they are test quality wings like v/d Heever, Rhule, Volmink, Mapoe, Kolbe, Sithole and Sergal Petersen. Paul Jordaan's best bet is to play wing, he is not physical enough for 13. Its sad to see Mjekevu off to France, he looked such a great prospect 2 years back or so. SA Schools wing v/d Merwe is touted for great things. Baby Boks Sinatla and Obi looked great, Sinatla is tied into 7's.

At outside centre, JJ stands tall. There are some good young prospects in Stokkies Hanekom, Pat Howard, Sadie, Lindeque, Small-Smith, Dries Swanepoel, JP du Plessis and Tyler Fisher. I cant help but feel de Allende looks better suited to 13, as do youngsters like Andre Esterhuizen and Rohan Janse v/Rensburg. Taute is always an option at 13 as well.

At inside centre, Jean still has some experience to offer and Jan Serfontein stands out as his successor. Frans Steyns best position is 12 in my books and he is only 26 so has plenty to offer. Frans Venter has come of age this year for the Bulls and I really like the look of Howard Mnisi of the Griquas. There are a number of handy youngsters in de Allende, Andre Esterhuizen, Rohan Janse v/Rensburg, Tim Whitehead and Heimar Williams.

At flyhalf, we have to move on from Morne, plain and simple. The best prospect is Goosen, followed by Lambie. Jantjies has plenty of creative clout and Catrakilis is on the fringe. There are some good youngsters out there like Pollard, Swiel, Zielinga and Boshoff

At scrumhalf, we need Hougaard to rediscover his mojo for at his best he has no peers. du Preez has the experience to impart. The youngsters, v/Zyl, Reinach, Schrauder and Groom need to lay claim to test status. Kockott is showing he should never have been overlooked years ago in SA.

That's the backs

 Saffex, you are a glutton for pain! Goosen? Has he not yet been exposed? The Cheetahs didn't even miss him this year. All hype and no perspective, the product of letting your emotions frantically take grip of the tongue and choke all sense of reason. Jantjies too has been royally exposed, lest we forget the Barbarians disaster. No, two very frail creatures who have been swept away by an intensive examination by the New Zealanders. You may note Goosen's defensive statistical data over the two seasons, not the greatest. And then Lambie, having a torrid season throughout the Super XV and then test rugby! You have an eye for the mediocre Saffex. Youngsters with no real potential. To make matters more embarrassing for you, an old has-been named Butch showed young Bambie how it's done.

To your credit you recognize Hougaard to be our scrummie in waiting. Meyer gave in too quickly to the fans and persisted with the natural born failure that is Pienaar - he who showed so much promise at 10.

When was Goosen exposed, dont make it up as you go?

Goosen showed as an 18 year old playing for the Baby Boks that he was a massive talent.

Goosen will have a long career as the Bok 10 incumbent and will go down as twice the pivot useless Morne ever will.......wont take much to surpass the 60% win record Morne has.

If you don't recognise the class in Goosen, I suggest you start dedicating your time to ping pong

Goosen is the classic ectomorph - or as I like to say, ectosmurf. Very frail in contact. He can not assert himself on defence and cannot hit the gainline or challenge it without considerable threat to his well-being. At test level he was shut out in every game with the exception of one solitary break that led to nothing against Australia who were in the midst of a serious injury crisis. His defensive stats were alongside Robert Ebersohn's as the worst of the entire backline. Your bold prediction is already wilted Saffex, let it go.

Sun, Goosen's display against Oz was simply sublime.....one certainty is that he is able to impose himself physically in attack or in defence more so than Morne ever could, for the simple reason that Morne shy's from contact and lacks the hard edge.

Time will have you eating your ill informed dribble when it comes to Goosen.......who is easily our best prospect at 10 since readmission.

 Oh so you think that all those name you rattled off are worthy of even coming into contention then do you?

I feel so safe at wing now that we have guys like Volmink, Sergeal Pietersen, Mapoe, Sithole, Rhule and vd Heever waiting in the wings.

My word, AB's will never beat as with Whitehead, Mnisi, Rohan Janse v/rensburg and co chomping at the bit to replace Jean.

...and the stupidity shows no sign of let up...Seeing as 90% of the names you mentioned will never be anything more than average CC or maybe, super rugby players, I would say you are wasting your time mentioning them..Jee whizz Dave but you are dense!

 Tyler challenging JJ for the 13 spot?? Not quite Bravid...Firstly, Tyler is already better (he can tackle) and secondly JJ is also a challenger for the top spot at 13..Its not his..
I will admit that Fourie didnt have one of his best games but that can be expected after such a long lay off. He will be better next week. I can also conclude that SA would have had 7 less points if JJ was playing as he hasn't the vision or skill to put Du Preez away like that and Wales never looked like scoring a try..Had JJ been there, they might have looked much better on attack...
So yeah, Fourie was nothing special but he was solid..We not even getting solid out of JJ! Expect JP and Fourie to be better against Scotland...They must retain their places all tour.
