is most unusual for a home team, it's normally the home side who start off with a bang. The Boks buoyed by home ground advantage/ crowd won't be that fortunate playing in downtown Tokyo on neutral soil in front of a sparse Bok fan club.

My take on the players...Snyman went MIA. Lekkerding Faf of the week before was woeful. Pollard was solid as per usual. The centre pairing is like a disjointed knee. Mostert, tries hard but is not test material. Kolisi is a Clayton's Kapitan.

When Fourie came back to the Springbok team he was woeful in the tests he played in in 2013 and 2014.  In the earlier years when he did play for the Springboks he was very good.

However, when he turned up for the  Springbok camp in 2015 he was in such a shocking physical condition that he could not be used even by Meyer and he dropped from sight - prove that he should not have been playing in 2013 and 2014 as well.  He was one of the flops Meyer brought back from retirement to play in tests.

In the Meyer era the 13 was a revolving door of players - I wrote at one stage that by 2014 Meyer had a total of 9 different players tried out in that position.  By 2015 he came up with Kriel as a 13 - which I believe was not as bad as the previous 9 flops.   So that is a position that has been problematic since 2012.   

However - Meyer was a flop as coach in many respects - but his backline coaching was non-existing.    Coetzee was even worse - so the situation is that the new coach has inherited a bad problem from his predecessors.   He will have to work out something to solve the problem - but I am afraid his first effort with Am  was totally inadequate and he would have to look elsewhere for a solution.
