Stats can be misleading

There is a tendency for some posters to evaluate a player based on statistics,this can be totally misleading and I agree with Sun Tzu that the best way to evaluate a player is to study the videos of contraversal disputes.

There is nothing more deceptive than half truths or should I say even 90% of truth...to judge on that basis from a report that might be flawed is foolish and has no credibility...to merely quote statistics given by a third party might be totally ineffective,inaccurate and misleading.

It's rather like trying to qualify as a brain surgeon through a correspondence course...lolz

I agree with you on the issue of stats in respect of individual games,   However over a series stats are useful since it gives an indication of tendencies displayed by players in their performances over a number of games or a series.   Players who cisistently showed deficiencies over an extended period of time and a number of marches can be classified as having certain specific negatives in their games.

Where stats is also useful in specific games is to see whether there are unfounded allegations made by the media and even members of this site on player performances - that us the hype factor, which is extremely harmful to any team.

However, I think stats should only be utilized to indicate tendencies in a player over a series and not to praise a player who could be a one-match wonder - or destroy a persons image when they have had a rare poor game.
