Steenkamp - What a mess

Steenkamp was on the bench today for the game between Toulouse and Metro.   During the first half the Toulouse pack was all over the pack of Metro and in the scrums they got two penalties because the Metro scrum collapsed twice.  The scrummaging of Toulouse was miles ahead of Metro.

Shortly after half time Steenkamp came on.   The scrums became a nightmare for Toulouse.  The second scrum collapsed and Steenkamp was penalized.  The scrums routinely went down and had to be reset.   However, late in the game Toulouse was attacking and very near to the trylyne of Metro - when Cronje got yellow-carded and Toulouse chose a scrum instead of a penalty.   After all metro was down to 7 forwards and the idea was a push over scrum.  End result Steenkamp became like crinkle paper and Metro won a tighthead.   

In between Steenkamp had a slight injury and had to be treated on the field.  He pulled up his jersey and the fat Saffex spoke of - came tumbling out over his shorts.   The guy must be carrying 15 kgs of pure lard.

Steenkamp in fact was poor - and I am not surprised Toulouse put him on the bench.

Meyer - I know Steenkamp previously played for the Bulls - but was it really necessary to pick this fat slob for the Springbok squad??    I suppose Steenkamp meet Mozart's requirements - once a Springbok - always a Sptringbok - lard and all.

Yep, saw him last weekend and could not believe the gut on him - its a disgrace that this guy has been brought back into the squad - on the strength of what?

On the strength of playing well enough at the RWC to keep the Beast, who destroyed Malherbe last week, on the bench....methinks.

Ah yeah good one Moz that makes so much sense - I know you are not stupid but hell man!!

I do believe that past performance is one thing - present disgrace is another.   The man is fat and useless - was proved in the game today.

The mere idea to select him borders on lunacy - sad to say.   If Meyer puts him on the bench in any game and use Van der Linde as well - the scrummaging would collapse in a heap - we will never win a single ball in the scrums.

And reality is Kitshoff who hasn't even dominated a CC scrum and Malherbe who was on the ropes against the Beast? No thanks! Gurthro has always been a bit of a Fattie, but perhaps he is going through two degustation menus at a sitting. Hell if Dave had access to that rich French food he would probably pop his expanding shorts.

Nope ten days of  preparation and Gurthro will be good. Talent is permanent, degustation menus temporary.

Get rid of at least 10 to 15 kgs of lard and get him matchfit - all within ten days.   is that possible? 

steenkamp is not the answer for the Boks, u know somethings wrong with a player when he needs an oxygen tank after running onto the filed from the changing rooms.

What do you have against oxygen? Hell our medics probably have a stimulating gaseous cocktail in there, just to tweek things a bit. Gurthro.....what a name....he even sounds like a prop. But hell if you guys had any facility with words, you'd call him Girth-row. Don't say I never help my fellow posters.

Rob Louw's parents and mine for 30 years went camping in Still Bay - always on adjoining sites.   They were sitting chatting togehter,  when an extremely fat gent on the way to the beach was walking past them asking "How much longer?"  Mt father answered immediately in response:  "Only 14 days".

Girthrow was more or less the same size - so do you mean getting rid of the access weight by giving birth or what?   

 how mobile is he?- he would be 34 by the next world cup

As mentioned above - Girthrow is either pregnant or grossly overweight.  Since it would be a medical impossibility or miracle to be the first option - I think it is the second - grossly overweight.   He was atrocious in the game mentioned earlier.   Doubt very much if he can trot 30 meters without medical assistance afterwards.  

France must by now have a serious deficiency in food suppply  as he ate it all - feeding Girthrow must inevitably denude the national food supply substanilly

I have a question though - does Meyer really make any sense?   First his mission was to make very Bull a Springbok - now it extends even to ex-Bulls (Steenkamp) and Leicester Tigers (Wentzell) - where he was coach for a while.   Let me offer some really sound advice to SA players intending to go overseas - sign up with Leicester Tigers - your future selection as a Springbok is assured.   Really - those whom the gods wishes to destroy - they drive mad!!!!!   

Funny thing is, Moz used to tell us how average Steenkamp was when he played

props thies days is not fat anymore they have to be strong and mobile. there are not ther just for scrums they are part of the team and need to do wat hey are ther for. so to pick a fat prop is not the best choice. look at the beast he is big but not fat he is strong as shit. steenkamp sould not be in the bok squad.

We are not picking a prop for the next WC. Whineke wants to get through this NH tour in reasonable shape. He needs a few experienced props for 20 minutes at the end. If CJ and Steenkamp come on.....the Bok scrum will be solid. CJ really worked Jannie in the June contest the Lions won.....these boykies are pros, not some junior cadet like Kitshoff.

This line of thought displays woeful ignorance about prop play in the NH. Both Steenkamp and CJ know the conditions, the tactics and the opponents.

If Toulouse will not even start with Steenkamp and bring him off the bench  - after which their scrummaging collapsed - no amount of "know" will help.  Aside from the "know" the physical ability must also be there. 

In the case of both Van der Linde but more especially Steenkamp they are really not fit for a provincial match - leave alone on international level.  What happened a year or two ago - does not off-set the present deficiency at all.   Fact is there will be scrummaging chaos worse than Werber Kruger was if any of the two orboth came off the bench.   I have not seen any match over the past  year where the two characters produced anything.   The Lions scum was quite strong unril Van der Linde was nrought off the bench - then it weakened badly.

No use arguing against facts at all - Meyer made a mess and he now has to live with it.

Balls Mike.....CJ started in the Lions match I referenced. You're just lying now, I'm sad to say.

Thanks fpr reminding me - he did start in ONE game this year - played well for 10 minutes and vanished from sight.   Was replaced at halftime I think.  I rmember though that you wrote a praise song about him after the match. 

As good as he was in 2007 - as useless he was this year.   Five years is a long time in the professional career of a sportsman.   If he is as good as you say he is - why did the Stormers ditched him and rather played Kitshoff and Malherbe in their starting line-up.

Why keep defending the indefensible?  I think you must admit that you are wrong about Steenkamp - the original target of this thread - and now try and bring Van der Linde on board - as  you believe that you have a stronger case with him.  I am afraid that you are betting on a losing horse here.
