Before this turns into a shitstorm again, let me just say that I thought Steph had a strong game on Saturday, despite a few alarming defensive lapses. Here though is another instance where his good judgment abandons him as he shoots (way) out of line and creates a potential scoring opportunity for the opposition. This play takes place around minute 42 (second half) .

Why always only Du Toit and De Allende concentrated on?

Why don't you do the same with some other players imnclusive of FATSO - Comey

Very similar to the Sanchez break, exactly the same Stephanie error.

There is no instance of Steyn doing that, Mike. If you have one, let me know when and where and I'll check it out .

Yeah, I saw PSDT do it a couple of times in the game. Creating a dog leg. But I'm not sure if it's encourage to shut down the distributor. But any level headed player would take the gap that is created

He does seem to create holes when he is in that position. His pillar defence is also really week and tends to rest on his heels to much. He need to get guys around him tighter rather than looking to shoot up and tackle

It's a decoy. He forces the pass before the "sleepers" were in position. If he hung back and waited, the attack would have straightened the line and completed the overlap. He disrupted the move....part and parcel of rush defense...and yes, he is coached to do it...Nienaber defence 101. Prevent the opposition from going wide too soon....it's not flawless though...it will backfire a few times, but somehow it's quite effective on average.

Oh look, a new way to dump on Pieter-Steph du Toit.
I must say, this particular forum's take on Pieter-Steph is spectacularly unique and totally contradictory to the rest of the world who generally consider Pieter-Steph to be one of the world's great players let alone one of South Africa's best.
I wonder how much of that has to do with one particularly pompous, ignorant and conceited rugby noob who surrounds himself with grovelling and toadying Servile Gimps and hates Pieter-Steph with a passion bordering on the psychotic?

I considered that Draad, but there's no clear overlap. The shifting group of four might have caused some problems, it's hard to tell, but with Willie also covering back we still seemed to have it in hand. It seems like the plan might well have been to pull us wide and then have J12 take an inside pass to slip past the tight forwards (I think this is likely given the lethargy of the two wide players who don't even come close to being in a position to join the attack - as if they knew it wasn't going to come their way).

Either way, we can't be sure, but shooting out of line there created all sorts of gaps and a clear overlap if the said two Japanese out wide were alert enough to read the play and run support. The rush defense can be hit and miss, but it's also about good judgment. Watch how well Am does it for example, gets it spot on time after time.

Why we have liars and distorters on site is really evident and the nicknames of them is highly appropriate.   Piss brain Comey put photos on site indicating clear overlaps in this case - it is  8 Japanise against 5 SA players.  Then he comes up with his routine attack = claiming in fact that Du Toit caused the overlap and should stand around patiently for the overlaps to be put into effect,

Then he is joined by Strzok - who blamed Du Toit for a routine tackle miss by Mostert.

The only conclusion is that the Site idiotic "experts" always hunt for mistakes they can blame on Du Toit and De Allende.   They would come up with total idiotic findings and then said it is not hatred of the players.   On the other hand fuck ups o other players are always ignored and covered up.

I got to the conclusion that they do not really understand the game and is out and out idiots supreme.   Strzok is particularly vicious - Liza Page and  Comey is just ass lickers.

Then read your own again for an example of pointless vomiting: Liars / distorters / piss brain / fuck ups / idiots / ass lickers

You are becoming more irrelevant on this forum by the day.

Pakie...sort of agree, but they do it on purpose. Has to be. Playing like that, WP shortened my lifespan by so much, I had to quit smoking.

It's awkward and ugly at times, but it's effective.  It happens too much just to be a simple error in judgment...They're fcking with us...It's deliberate.  I was absolutely amazed that we kept NZ from scoring much in the matches under Rassie...especially the matches in NZ. The kept on coming, but we kept them out...and Duane is apparently one of the king pins in orchestrating the defensive plan on the field. 4D Chess they say ...what happened to the game we grew up with?

Comey

Calm down - I am just tired of the repetitive attacks on the same players by the same people.   Bugger-ups by other layers are never dealt with by you or the other two "experts".

I am saying if I ever saw a posting by you that deals with another player it always has a string of excuses for any deficiency that player showed,

I hope the day will arrive that the three of you become objective in player assessment - until that day arrives I will be calling you what you really are. .

PS, Pakie, there were no overlap? They could have been 5 against 3, but somehow the inside 3 ended up in a cluster and the potential line evaporated....from the photos anyway... Mabe I should watch it again in real time?

Not really Draad. Remember, Willie (and I noticed Pollard as well) is covering back out of screen as well. Let me adjust it like this, where I moved Steph back into line (so this is a manipulated image) as if he hadn't shot up - him being out of line make us look a lot thinner than we were.

Japan can't really go inside, the tight forwards have that space covered. Out wide we're one on one at this stage, so unless they use the red guy to somehow wrap around, which he never looked like doing, they'd have had to work hard to establish an overlap there. Damian can even rush up and shut the move down in midfield as his man gets the pass.

As I say, it's tough to predict how this would have played out had Steph held his line, but it didn't look like big trouble to me until he left his position.

Yes it probably was, like I said, it's prone to some lapses.

Pakie, I'll try and watch it again...and it was only Japan...my point is that there is a lot more to our rush defense than meets the eye. Good attacking sides manipulates the defence.  Good defensive sides manipulating the attack is unheard of , but not impossible...my kinda chess, not confined to 64 squares.

The day that Strzok. Liza Page and Comey start analyzing other players than De Allende and Du Toit and come up with objective assessments   and stop inventing BS in the process - I will stop calling them the three biggest distortion experts and liars ever.

Mostert missed a routine tackle on Sanchez and Du Toit gets the blame for a line break - Vermeulen lost the ball in a tackle and De Allende got blamed for the resultant try following the bugger up,

If  De Allende made that wild and inaccurate pass Steyn made that led to the Japan try we would have had that as topic for discussion by the twisters and liars for the next decade.

DA made about 7 errors against Japan which I could have had a field day with if any of this was about laying into players - 4 possession losses, a poor offload to Steph that was dropped, poor kick straight into touch off turnover possession, breakdown penalty - but I mostly let it slide. I even praised his strong defense.

Contrast that to you telling us how Mostert failed in the lineouts when in fact he had a perfect lineout performance.

Or how about this comment about Steyn:
His second effort was to kick away a turnover ball over the tryline for the Japanese to stop any potential attack.

Steyn made two field kicks, none from turnover ball. One was phase play, the ball he kicked into the goal area was from a scrum inside our own half.

But you want to stand in front of me doing a little dance about lies and distortions? Get lost.

Comey

Your defense of Steyn is twisted as per normal.   Nothing about the pass I referred to.  The fact is he made two kicks - and one was from a turnover ball whether you like it or not and both were aimless and poor - could not be followed up and was basically possession handover kicks,

The third kick he made was a relieving kick from his own 25 an was from the middle of the field - the ball went out about 15 meters from where he made the kick,  Woer-woer kick if I ever saw one.

As to the pass buggered up by Steyn - leading to the Japan try - nothing at all!!!!   Instead a further attack on De Allende and Du Toit.   I think the lies are catching up with you anyway,

Read what CC wrote under another thread about the three "experts"  on site.   LMAO

The Steyn pass was mentioned and acknowledged. I was even the one who pointed out that 365 wrongly attributed it to Damian in their player ratings. What more do you want to say about it, Mike?

and one was from a turnover ball whether you like it or not

No, Damian kicked turnover ball away at 66:31.

Steyn's first kick was made at minute 61:52 after a sequence of two phases that started at 61:33 when Am gathered a Jap box kick. That's not turnover ball, we had been in possession for two phases already. It wasn't the best of kicks, clearly aiming to target an empty box of space behind the Jap wing but it didn't go wide enough to give Mapimpi a chance.

The second kick that went in-goal was from our own 10m line at 67:48 and directly from a scrum with only Kolbe and Damian outside Steyn and no clear attacking advantage. From a position where we had few attacking options in our own territory, that gave us a 22 kickoff deep in Jap territory. Not a bad result.

Draad, I don't really bait much, but when I do it's usually pretty obvious. This incident stood out as one of very few where Japan cleanly breached our line midfield in a game where we were otherwise very sound defensively. That begged the question why. Simple as that.

I didn't criticize it for the same reason that I didn't criticize Damian's 4 possession losses: it is not characteristic of the player. Damian is not a poor handler, Steyn is not a poor passer. Anomalies and rare errors. The try resulted from a perfect bounce for Japan where mostly these incidents result in a knock-on that goes nowhere, like the Willie/Damian incident earlier in the game.

Easy - you only criticize 2 players and justify balls-ups of others.   That is why your opinions is totally distorted and worthless.

Steyn's passing is not a rare error anyway - for years it was routinely poor and a discussion that was repetitive when dealing with matches - eg by Mallett.  And his kicking game was total BS for years.

I have no problems with knock-ons - it happened when the ball is affected by the weather often enough - I have  problem when a pass is so shit poor it ended up as a try for the opposition.

However, keep it up - we are in desperate need of BS on site - it is always hilarious and a great source of laughter for me!!!! LMAO .  .

You go through any Steph test, you'll see this occur time and time again. Sometimes less prominent than others. In games where teams really concentrate around the fringes, it sticks out like a sore thumb, such as the Wellington test last year, when he was labelled "best ever Bok". The hype, the reputation, it simply doesn't match the production. Last season he had three genuinely solid tests: Pumas 1, Australia 2, England 4. That's it. This is a player who is never called out in the media, a media that has viciously targeted much better players over lengthy campaigns spanning years. If you are going to deny Steph's shortcomings, you will lose each and every time to enter a debate, just like Omlett's thread where he called out posters about this very thing last year. It ended in humiliation. Then there is the matter of the Steph ball carry, the slow and ponderous carries contributing for static phase play - Damian, another contributor. The two-headed monster of the Stormers. No surprise that we look a lot like the worst attacking side in super rugby. Steph ranked 28th out of our top 30 ball carriers in super rugby, his average metres per carry falling in the same range as his metres per carry last test season. Nothing I have written is opinion. This is all verifiably true, facts. I've backed it up numerous times with stats, diagrams and video evidence. Those who have opposed are armed with the same flimsy tools: Insults, lies and misdirection.

How many defensive situations do not turn up in the stats? I have covered tests where nearly 50% of defensive encounters were not expressed in the stats because he was simply beaten. Those were big tests. This is not a world class flank. He was ranked 17th in super rugby this season, and that's about right. He is a very poor choice. For all the criticism of Dan, he at least gets the team going forward with explosive power and mobility and can distribute the ball. Another gaff by J-Raz. So, we enter the World Cup with one back rower, Thor. Low and behold, he is the one who is attacked. This Bok side is too lopsided.
