The howling for Stephanie to replace Matfield was non stop. Many times this year based on rather ordinary performances, Steph was praised to high heaven. But the reality was very underwhelming.
......
After three years of almost continuous injury, Stephanie finally stayed healthy for the whole test season. It actually started rather well. Showing energy and competitiveness offthe bench he was a strong late match contributor against Ireland. But then he was picked to start and the fans had what they wanted. In truth he wasn't very influential in the RC. Brought in for Lomp after our first loss to Oz away, he was adequate, no more.
.....
But on this YE tour, he really was rather poor. There was the double dummy bite against the Poms, leaving him looking a bit naive. And then losing the last lineout against Italy, never seen Victor so upstaged. And against Wales, he looked spent.
.......
Stephanie was supposed to be the new athletic lock, making open field tackles and being a threat on the run. Early on he did threaten with some pick and go moves close to the breakdown. Then the teams watched the. Tapes.
.......
As for the lineout in 3 games on the YE tour he took 7 lineout balls....zippo on opposition ball. And we know the Italians took one from him.
.......
Time to switch Etzebeth to 5 and bring in a real power lock like Willemse at 4...and use Stephanie as an impact olayer.

The BS flows like lava from the Mozart idiot. He cannot accept that Du Toit was our best lock this year with Etzebeth a distant second.
Fuck Victor was upstaged twice against the AB's in one year - one of which led to an AB try and the other ball he fumbled preventing a driving maul. Can you be honest for a change.
Du Toit is a lock - Matfield believed he was a center and as lightweight as he was he was easily lifted in line-outs and that was his only claim to fame - a lock he was not since he contributed zero to Tight 5 play.

Stephanie's flaccid play had a lot to do with Etzebeth being injured....easy to do the Hollywood stuff when somebody else is doing the hard work.

You forgot he was not a lock when the much maligned (by you) incidents happened. He is not a loosie and using him as a loosie is just one of Coetzee's miserable selections.
However, your sick maligning of Du Toit shows how out of touch on rugby issues you are. Are you jealous or just besotted with an idea your malignant mind has been formatting?

So because he's a lock that makes okay for him him to bite on two dummies, from the same player in the same game?
There were many pundits calling for Stephanie to be used at flank so we could play two real locks.

Who but you and Coetzee wanted him as a loosie?

Here's Gavin Rich.....and I never wanted him as a loosie, I just point out his shortcomings as a lock
It was perhaps a necessary gamble for Coetzee given the resources he was sitting with at the time and given the make-up of the England team. Du Toit could certainly make the grade as a No7. It was a position he played early in his career at the Sharks and he has the athleticism and the other qualities.

Steph Dutoit is perhaps the only player to be consistent in the Coetzee era. He was poor for the Boks last year- but he his work rate this year has been very high.

sharkie...
agree for the most part.
But he is def not a world class blind side flank!
His only position should be 5!

We would be better with Etzebeth at 5.....a blocky/power lock at 4 like Willemse. Steph's emotional/effort based play dries up in 20 minutes, he is best suited for an impact role.
