Steve Borthwick - Life as England Coach
I especially loved his comments on Morné and JJ (poor hands, weak tackler, but runs fast)
Doos XL, I think we've established that no-one gives a toss what you think.
I know it's your mission to become even slightly relevant on this board. Try reading more and posting less.
Flashm an and his toadies keep droning on.
I know of almost no coach who trashed his predecessor’s team who has succeeded. Small of Borthwick, if those were his findings he should have kept them to himself.
We are struggling in every facet of the game, he’s not wrong.
Worst scrum, second worst line out in the official stats. There’s no area of the game in which we are excelling or doing remotely well.
Card is not a liar.
Borthwick should consider that the reason he has this job, is because the English team was not working- or no longer working.
They did do reasonably well under Eddie Jones, at least until 2019. From 2020 onwards it has been downhill.
Jones has destroyed the team. It will take an age to rectify things.
No, his mismanagement of the team has caused us lots of problems. For example, his failure to bring on new players. By now, we should have a settled Squad.
Starting your test coaching career with a home loss is a hard pill to swallow.
It is straight into the pressure cooker. The anniversary period was over before it began.
Alarm bells and question marks galore...and more...
The tackling against Scotland was not up to standard. There were commitment issues. The intensity was missing, and Scotland was afforded to much space on the advantage line.
Some of Greenwood's comments were that he wants to see the inside centre starting, someone with more physicality to carry the ball up, offload in the tackle, and even bust some tackles.
Having Marcus Smith and Owen Farrell at 10/12 is more suited to an expansive game, with 2 playmakers.
England has traditionally been more like the Boks, with a big pack that likes to win the collisions before going wide. Keeping it tighter with an inside centre that can carry the ball up and take on the first line of defenders, before recycling with the forwards to create the 2nd phase.
England's outside backs have not looked good in a while. I would probably drop Farrel, but that would mean changing the captain.
He won’t drop Farrell.
We should have been playing Kelly and Slade in the Centres with Farrell starting at 10 but they were both injured. Slade is back this week so he’ll most likely start, hopefully with Lawrence or, failing that, Tuilagi who really hasn’t played very well of late.
The lack of intensity is a worry. They need a real shake up in all areas.
