It's hard to imagine the force that would break Fransie's huge leg on a rugby field. But if he is gone, we might be closer to Lambie at 15 and Morne at 10. There is no other international class fullback and Steyn is probably the most influential 10 in the the land again.

Positions that are wide open include both flanks, scrumhalf and outside centre.

I am surprised by your statement about outside center - why not your choice of last year Juan de Jongh?   After all he only flops in defence nowadays and that is never at all an issue with you.   He can also do the Twickenham trick by disappearing from sight and the Springboks may still win the games they play in

Personally I think that the problem with Steyn is that he was never since his return from France really physically in top condition.   That can contribute to injuries and may be the cause of his injury laast year and his present injury as well.   He was under-performing throughout the games he played in since his return - despite Saffex's ravings to the contrary and even though there were occassional glimpses that he can stuill contribute - it was not consistent,    Since the start of Super 15 this year his defence started to deteriorate and that was also the case on Saturday.

Now seriously - I never thought that the issue at center would be solved by him a 12 and De Villiers at 13.  The only way out will be to play Serfontein at 12 and put De Villiers in the 13 position or vice versa.  However, knowing the way Meyer goes about his selections - that is unlikely to happen.   He would play Meisiekind at 12 - come hell or high water.

The only other real option at 15 is Willie le Roux and it will be interesting to see if Meyer bows to public demand come the second Bok training squad whenever that is.

Frans is a big loss.....the injury count is getting out of hand

Saffex

Hourrah - we agree on one issue.   Meyer is a dolt - he will keep Kirchner as full back - mark my words.

The position is up for grabs. Lambie, Willie LeRoux and Joe are the candidates. Willie is the most dangerous runner but I would lik him playing at 15 t o see how dependable he is. He likes to rov around the filed - quite difficult to accomodate and is his defence ggos enough. But enough positives to give him a shot.

The point is if Lambie or Willie are possible Bok 15s they must start playing there.
I note Frans has not broken his leg - but how long will he be out? Some dietician better be working with him!!

What bad timing for Steyn - he was really "rounding" into form. Haha.

No, seriously - very bad luck as his form was coming back which was a good sign for Sharks and Boks. I reckon whoever we have back there is going to be targeted by Italy/Scotland/Samoa. Backline should be very very good if M Steyn, JDV, Serfontein, Habana all stay healthy.
