They have been poor every 3rd quarter- the whole season!

Allmost every team has outscored them in the 3rd quarter.

If the Sharks are winning at half time- it is pretty much done and dusted, with the Sharks in the final.

add that to the fact that the stormers do love to choke more than others....

we just need to build a score of 10 to 15 points then the stormers are done for. hopefully if they dont make it then WP can get rid of no cups coetzee and his rubbish game pattern

Does having the best defence in the world also mean having the worst attacking team the world?

Robbie Fleck is the attack backline coach- lets start by firing him and the fitness rehabilitation team- (missed target dates of Schalk, and all other loose forwards)

If the Stormers could attack as well as most of the teams in the tournament- it would be game over.

Jaque Nienaber- defence coach is the saving grace.

Although one point that was raised recently by clevermike is that most of the tries scored are by Stormers backs. So this raises another question- why do the Stormers forwards not score?

Anyone could can provide data to support or elaborate upon the propothesis

the thing is sharkbok to eb the best you need total rugby...defence and attack must be a weapon. the crusaders and chiefs play total rugby. there defence is one of the best and there attack is immense. our teams seem like they are just focused on one or the other. one needs total rugby to be the best.

robbie fleck was the coach of uct before getting the job of stormers coach and if i can recall had a year where uct ended at the bottom half for the first time in years. then suddenly he got the job at the stormers. so no one in the world can convince me that he is the best for his role. yes the backline scores the most for there team but that being said there tries is almost half of the other teams. looking at it in terms of who scores what is not realy the issue. in general they dont score a lot of tries due to there game pattern. the question is about how many they score not by who. attack is not just backline it he whole method of how defence is broken down and how to create space. with the personal that the stormers has at the back i am not a bit surprized that they have the most tries in the backline but then again looking at the opposing teams they played against the defence of those teams were not up to standard either.

its tough. the issue is there penile limp game plan that does not employ there whole team to be cohesive on attack as they are cohesive on defence. for me that is just down to inept coaches. you are 100% correct that jacques nienabers defence is the only reason they are in the semis in my view. if they lose him heaven forbid they will be led to the slaugther gallows

The Stormers like to get ahead in the first 40 and then just go into complete defensive mode. Taking away all risk to concede turn overs and intercept tries.

I have never rated Fleck as player or a coach. If you think about it, Alistair was the backline coach of the boks and then the backline coach of the Stormers. The boks never had a great backline play, it was only when Jones came in that the players started clicking. If you look at the Stormers from the past, they use to have one of the most dynamic backlines in the compitition. For me there are two coaches that has really proven to be worth their salt and that is Proudfoot and Nienabaar. Yes, the stormers scrum isn't as strong but look at age of them and the youngsters coming through. Kolisi, Estebeth, Elstadt, Kitshoff, Malherbe. All under 23, which is startling come to think about it. Fleck on the other hand has been really poor and the fact that we have lost so many quality backline players to. No Jacque Fourie, Sadie was really good for the stormers, Whitehead has been a great revalation at the sharks, JJ Engelbrecht. Who do we have instead. Marcel Brache is no where near a first class player and was rubbish in last years currie cup. So for me that falls on Fleck shoulders. If you compare our backs to the Chiefs and the quality of backline coach they have then one tends to wonder why the hell are we stuck with Fleck. The stormers need a world class backline coach and fast.

yeah spot on kingcorn. for a backline to function the whole team's playing stucture really needs to change. spot on with jones comment. but if you also noticed the playing stucture of the boks also changed and as a direct result the bok backline was potent to the extreme. easly the best backline at the RWC. which was amazing to see really. sharp direct great of the ball running. quick wide passing hand speed. line running you name it. it al was there and we coupled with a great attack mauled the teams with defence.

i reckon the stormers needs a NZ of aussie to shape up the backline. there is not major major problems but in 4 5 odd years the backline has not been a force i feel they deserve to be. the stormers was always know for the expansive gameplay and abilty to attack but that has been replaced with the dreary rubbish gameplan. i feel AC and fleck are utterly incompetant. the like of carel du plessis ext would make the stormers close to inpossible to defeat really. that is my honest view. they are top of the log fine fair enough but no stormers supporter i know is happy of how the stormers are playing to get there. AC just for interest sake was in charge of EP and manged to coach them into the second devision before someone plucked him out of nowhere to be jake assistent.

proudfoot is decent and nienaber is world class. the best in world in my view. nothing wrong with the personal but he backroom staff need to be changed. not until that happens i feel the stormers are meant to be medicore and boring. to be the best a team needs total rugby.
