The Stormers laid the platform in the first half of the game against the Warratahs, with two tries, to finally pick up their first four try bonus point of the season, but then.....nothing! I am over the moon that they won, because that means an SA side still tops the overall log, but the teams behind them are so close, that one loss by the Stormers and a couple of bonus point victories by those behind them, and they could again miss out on a chance to take home any silverware. We have debated this extensively, so I am not going to get into it, but playing against a jet-lagged Warratahs side, that are having a dip in form and having already laid the platorm against them in the first half, the Stormers should have picked up the bonus point. Instead, they fell away all together and in turn gave the Warratahs a bonus point for finishing within 7. This Stormers side play more boring rugby than the Bulls ever did!

Defence is awesome, so credit where due, but damn, work on the attack!

@Bluebok - I think the attack was a much improved effort on the eveing, Waratahs were very good on defense and made something like 120 tackles. So the attack was there, they just couldn't get through. The other thing you need to take into account is the weather. The odds of scoring 4 tries in weather like we had on Saturday evening are slim, not really indusive to running rugby.

But as the bulls guys used to say, Winning is winning no matter how, and i'd rather see my team win than lose.

I am with bluebok on ths one.taking theseason as a whole not one bonus point foea 4 try gameis a problem. 4 bonus points for 4 tries or more should be on the board by know. It could defintely come back to bite us.

Surel ythe side topping the log could have put awa ysome side! This dfade out in the second half is also worrying. Are the youngsters running out of gas? Its it the energy spent on defence?

I still do not like the fact we have so many small backs.  Frans Steyn come to the Stormers!!

Yes correctly as a season there has been issues, however I am looking at the fact that it seems the Management team has been trying, if you look at the game this weekend and compare that with the season. Also taking into account the conditions of the day on saturday, I did see a marked improvement. Stormers kept the ball far more and utilised Phase play to take it up making the tahs tackle. Backline was not what it can be but a marked improvement. Jean made some good incisive runs, the only time the ball really wetnt wide Joe scored.

Again not perfect yet, however i can see something happening, Hopefully they improve more this weekend.

Granted, the backs did look a little better, but damn, Jean has become one dimentional. And people moan about Olivier from the Bulls. Jean NEVER passes! My big problem with that is, any opposing team know he won't pass so they can safely mark him with two or three players and make sure of the tackle. Its things like this that make it easy to defend against a Stormers backline attack. Yes here and there he manages to dodge a tackle, but he still is not making clean line breaks. Look, I am no rugby genius, so if I can spot this obvious frailty, then so can any opposing coach.

Yes I agree on jean not passing, one of the reasons i want him to shift back to outside centre were he started out. The only inside centre that the stormers unfortunately have that can let the ball go wide is Marcel Brache, unfortunately he is a bit of a defensive liability. JP du Plessis is good but he doesn't play the ball wide. You need a guy lke Doppies or Andries Strauss if you want that backline to rip. So that won't change. The only thing that will change is the colletive effort on attack, playing it up through the phases, keeping it tight and keeping the ball. Then when the oppisition has been pulled in take it wide fast. The way Joe Peterson scored on Saturday evening. This is how they will remedy their attack with a big pack of forwards and pace out wide. Stormers will not run it like the cheetahs as they don't have the distributors, they however have some good tightforwards to lay a platform, and they can attack of this traditional platform, we saw it this weekend. Again they made the Tahs tackle. Go and look at the stats, any team that makes another team do 120 tackles in the game has surely put in the attacking effort.

Wow I can see why you dont rate Taute as a centre, you are clearly clueless when it comes to the art of centre play........Strauss and Doppies as candidates to get a backline to rip?????????????????

Your standards are not very high are they?

then please show me any other 2 centres according to you that you believe have distribution skills. And don't just bash it up to the advantage line? I dont neceseritly said them, I said the type. so if you thing anyone else that is of that type, please make the suggestion.

Hell Saf, this is not pleasant really, the moment someone has a different oppinion that you you attack their knowledge is some aggresive type of way. Hell man have a decent conversation without the need to assert your oppinion.
