There were a lot of negatives to the Stormers performance and only two positives.   The positives were the performances of Bekker and Etzebeth - both were outstanding.

The list of negatives were nearly endless:-

Lets start with the expected ones anfd then go on with the rest:-

Jantjies

He did his expected and ran towards the receiving player before passing the ball - mostly hospital passes.  Made one good pass to Etzebeth - which resulted in the Habana try.   Made one kick that cost the Stormers and that was after the ball was passed from outside the 22 and he kicked it directly into touch.   Another aimless kick also resulted in loss of territory.   Missed an important tackle as well - but did not knock balls on as happend in the past.  Howver, he was protected and all passes requiring  relieving kicks were made to Pietersen.

Kolisi

The first two efforts of Kolisis to carry the ball resulted in turnovers and that was the end of promising moves by the Stormers.  His tackling was wicked and I counted three missed tackles - there could have been more. Performance in negative territory.

De Jongh

He carried the ball twice when in the clear - but it led to nothing.  Missed three tackles clearly - can this guy still tackle players?

Now for the other disasters

Bezuidenhout

Definitely by some distance the worst Stormers player on the field.  Ther was nothing positive coming from this guy and giving away that penalty try was sheer idiocy on this part.  Line out throwings was disgracefully  poor and he truely made a complete mess of the whoe game.

Carr

Was he actually playing?   Cannot remember him doing anything during the time he was on the field of play.

Fourie

Showed less at 6 than Kolisi did at 7- and that was precious little.   The Stormers backrow was a disaster for them as a whole.

SUMMARY

The worst performance of the Stormers for many years.   However, Coetzee should wake up and forget about his diminutive little angels he always manage to select.

One of those is Jantjies.  The Stormers backline against the Waratahs and Hurricanes functioned better with Van Aswegen at flyhalf than it did today.

Coetzee would be well advised to send Jantjies back to Johaanesburg and get rid of De Jongh until he learns how to tackle.

Too many players just not up to standard. The game plan or the players understanding of this is just not up to standard.

I made some scahing  remarks about some players after watching the game.  Now lets see whether my impression was in fact correct.   I looked at the stats of the three players on ESPN and Foxsport and the results were as follows:-

ESPN

Jantjies 0/0 0 4/28/7 22 0 0 1 1 4/1 0/0 0 0/0 de Jongh 0/0 0 0/3/6 24 0 3 1 1 7/3 0/0 0 0/0   Kolisi 0/0 0 0/2/7 26 0 2 0 2 7/3 0/0 1 0/0 Bezuidenhout 0/0 0 0/1/6 6 0 0 0 0 13/1 0/0 2 1/0

Looking at the stats - Jantjies made 22 meters in 7 carries of the ball - but most of those were running towards the ball recipients before passing the ball and he missed 20% of attempted tackles,

De Jongh missed 30% of all attempted tackles

Kolisi missed 30% of all attmepted tackles and lost possession of the ball after two of his seven carries.

Foxsport

Jantjies   -     21 points

De Jongh  -   12 points

Kolisi         -    14 points

According to the point system Jantjies was just about par - but De Jongh and Kolisi was poor and their performances totally unacceptable.

Positive Remarks re Bekker and Etzebeth

Incidentally those were also statistically confirmed by Foxxsport who assihned the following points to them:-

Bekker       -     33 points

Etzebeth    -     35 points

CONCLUSION

The above data confirms my initial comments on the players mentioned negatively by me and is a rela .reflection of the poor player selections of Coetzee.

Mike
You've lost my respect, you continue to mention more negative facts than positives regarding Jantjies performances even if he plays reasonably good overall. You are dead wrong about Carr's performance, he was solid. Coetzee selection was fine, what exactly is your solution? to get rid of Jantjies that has proved you wrong, Van Aswegen doesn't produce much, the momentum changed when he came on, not so creative. Did you even watch the game? You are clueless when you make remarks about the Stormers, you stated it was Stormers worst game for many years, wow really? Get real! They managed to score tries and was great in attack at times. Its easy for people to blame the coach but they don't E-knowlege the real issue and i expected you to know.

Battling with the stats and the interpretation again, hey Mike? The term is "metres gained", i.e. field position gained. What it does not mean is the number of metres ran with the ball, it means the number of metres that he has gone forward with ball in hand.

Typical load of shit from DomMike, Jantjies was one of the better Stormers players, the way he put his outside backs away with that long flat pass was spot on. The Stormers lost the game after he went off.

The only players to emerge with any credit were the Stormers locks, Etzebeth and Bekker. The loosies were ok, with Fourie being the weakest and proving he is no loosie. But the loose trio lacked a bruiser. Coetzee stuffed that selection up. Fourie should have stayed at 2, with Armand at 7.

How on earth did Cilliers ever win a Bok cap, he is poor. The Stormers scrum improved when Malherbe came on at 3. Bezuidenhout is a sad excuse for a hooker, not S15 material.

Schraueder takes far too long to clear the ball. I have never seen de Jongh miss so many tackles. Its time Coetzee woke up to the fact that this little guy is not making it as a top flight 13.

Joe seems to think he is 10kg heavier than he is, for he always seems to take contact and always comes off second best.

Habana is turning into a liability with the penalties he is conceding, he needs to manage his game better.

That was a disgraceful performance by the Stormers. They keep letting all SA'n supporters down. Time for Coetzee to go, he is clueless

Saffex

Completely silent about the tackles missed by Kolisi?    All three Stormers back row players were bad - not only Fourie - who at least try some things.   Whatever, the other two did was very poor in the case of Kolisie and just about average in the case of Carr.

The updated stats on the match indicate as follows in respect of the Foxsport data:-

*   Fourie    -     39 points

*   Carr       -      26 points

*   Kolise    -      14 points

It could be argued that Kolisi does not fit in as a blindisde flank and should eb played as as opensider.   However, his recent games as an opensider was not at all convincing and his tackle ability is not good enough.

I must admit - I watched the game again and have changed my mind about Jantjies performance.   It was a satisfactory performance  - however nothing much to write home about.   I still think he is on the whole not a player that really should make the grade on Super 15 level.

I also looked specifically at the back row players.   When following the game closely - it is clear that Fourie actually put in a lot of tackles - he made14 tackles and missed only two - whilst also pilfering a ball from the opposition.   From a point lallocation basis it actually means that he got 28 of his points mentioned from tackles and 5 from the pilfer,  He also carried the ball 8 times - but lost points on account of his 2 missed tackles.

Kolisi got 14 points for tackles - but then also gave away a penalty and missed 2 tackes - hence the low point allocation.  Be it as it may he was desperately poor yesterday.

Kolisi did not have a great game, but he was far better than Fourie. Carr was on par with Kolisi. Not many of the Stormers had good games, only Etzebeth and Bekker did.

Jantjies had some good moments and is far better than the very average v/Aswegen

Just one question - in what way was Kolisi better than Fourie.   Just think carefully Fourie made 14 tackles missing 2 = Kolisi made 7 tackles missing 3.   Fourie made 1 turnover in possession - Kolisi none.  Fourie did not give away a penalty - Kolisi did give 1 away.

Can you explain to me on what you base your assessment that Kolisi performed better than Fourie - I am curious to know.

What utter rubbish about Fourie - the Oz commentators said he was very good. bwahhahahahaha.

What is very obviuouis is that kolisi is getting worse the longer te season lasts. he is not super 15 quality and neither is Carr.

A great benefit coming out of this is Aplon, De Jongh, Kolosi and Cilliers should not come anywhere close to a Bok squad. Another benefit could be the end of Coetzee.

I note that Naas Botha and Carlos Spencer both on reviewing that contraversial penalty try said it definitely was a knock on. Look like it for sure.

Saffex - apply for Coetzee's job and manage the team and players better. You run and hide and avoid answering questions about yourn chosen pets, just as you you did with the Frans Steyn debacle. You are real filth and i am personally very pleased you decided to chase the 'Pound'. Keep chasing and i hope you go over the cliffs of Dover.
