These are just some of the thoughts flowing through the rugby pages........along with 'it's the coach's fault'. Total breakdown which usually devolves into the writer's view of saviour players....Combrink, Cloete, Am, Rohan, Vorster for some....and even Louw and Frans for the few smarter ones.
...
This is what happens when you have a revolution that fails. When you abandon everything that made you the second best team on the planet.
...
After the WC SA Rugby decided to blow up our team and start anew. That commitment was strengthened this year with rules against overseas players and no appetite to select even the conforming Springboks.
..
So now we have a young, inexperienced team ...with no leaders. Remember when John Smit could rely on other leaders like Victor, Juan Smith, Schalk Burger and Jean de Villiers. Jake always made much of leadership. This team has literally no leaders.
..
But we also have no effective playing style. We have survived up until the AB game by exploiting turnover ball gifted to us by poor opponents. We have nothing else....our ball in hand game is bankrupt. Actually worse than it ever was under HM or PdV.
...
The writing was on the wall in the Super final when the Sader's tight defence killed the Lions attack at home. Jantjies couldn't make it happen against a NZ defence and there is no other SA flyhalf who plays the Lions game. The small guys like Mapoe and Skosan were toothless.
...
And what about our centre pairing....hapless through the Super season, but expected to play and succeed at a totally different style. Madness really.
...
But South African fans had a vision that they would run like All Blacks and coaches who picked a team that supposedly could do that. Fans got what they wanted....it's a brave new world
