Strauss did not hear the boo-ing on Saturday

“Springbok captain Adriaan Strauss says he did not hear the boos that filled Ellis Park at half-time in Saturday's 32-26 win over Ireland.

The Boks were greeted by a chorus of boos at the break when referee Angus Gardner brought the first stanza to a close with the score at 19-3 in favour of the visitors.

A spirited comeback in the last 20 minutes of the match saw the Boks pull victory out the bag, and all was forgiven.

Strauss, speaking after the match, said he had not heard the booing at the break.

"To be honest with you, I only heard that we got booed off now," Strauss said at the post-match press conference.

"Maybe I was thinking too many things at that stage.

"What I can remember is that every time we got momentum in the second half ... I couldn’t actually hear and it was very loud when we got into the corners and went for the lineout.

"On the throws I couldn’t actually hear the calls."

Strauss added that the second half support had played a major role in the Boks getting over the line.

"The momentum just kept on building and as the supporters got behind us it really helped and the flow of the game shifted," he said.

"I found it very positive, especially in the second half. I didn’t actually hear the boo, I heard the positives in the second half and it really helped us."

Coach Allister Coetzee said he understood the frustrations of the supporters, but he also encouraged South Africans to get behind their team.

"Everyone has an opinion, and everyone is entitled to his opinion. So are we," said Coetzee.

"And as long as we believe as a team that we’re on the right track and we’re doing the right things and our players are selfless in what we’re doing, then we’re fine.

"I know we will embark on this journey and become a good team.

"Tonight is just a little building block to say that ‘this is South Africa ... don’t write us off’. We understand and we take it because we know that Springboks don’t lose easily. We accept that.

"But we also do not accept that we’re nothing, lying still. We will come out and put up performances like this so it will always be half full."

The third and final Test against Ireland takes place in Port Elizabeth this weekend with the series tied at 1-1.”

I have learnt one lesson in life – do not hear what you don’t want to hear.  That is probably what happened to Strauss this weekend.

The crowd needs to boo louder. It is not that we dont support the Sprinboks- but we can only identifiy with winners

 Well, I can assure you Willie le Roux did hear the booing after his 2nd successful attempt to kick possession away. A bewildered expression on his face was very obvious and he did not try it again.Never underestimate the power of a hostile crowd.

 WP takes a lot of flack for booing at Newlands, but I didn't hear any booing at Newlands when we lost. I still maintain that booing is in very bad taste. I don't know what you guys heard on TV, but where we were sitting, although severely disappointed,  there were still some applause when Ire scored. ..and no booing. I was proud....of my section of the crowd atleast.

 There was I believe no boo-ing at Newlands that we could hear on TV - but there was definitely booing in the Ellis Park stadium at halftime. 

 I dont like this booing nonsense no matter who or where it is ,and that includes ABs fans.To boo your own guys is a bit harsh I reckon .

 Agreed WD neither the opponent nor your own team deserve this rubbish....when the opponent does well, you applaud politely. What's so hard about that. As for booing your national team, very crass.

Not swimming against the stream just for the sake of it, but sometimes booing is necessary. Booing opposition is obviously not on when you are doing it just because they area beating your side. But booing your own team when you've paid good money to go and see them and what you are witnessing is a cluster fcuk isn't in such bad taste. They wear the jersey and if they are being out played by a strong team then it's a different story. The players and the manager deserve to know what the public think. Else it's left to conversations in bars and us here on forums to generate a public opinion. How much of the that will ever reach on high and seriously it will be taken I don't know. The crowd at the game witnessing it first hand and delivering their opinion can't be ignored. If any Bok was uncertain about what was expected before Saturday, I don't the he is any more.

The only thing better than winning rugby- is a well-balanced team playing positive rugby and winning. 
If the Boks play like they did last week in the first half- they are going to get more booing. 
I am not devoting time to watch sumo wrestlers make mistake after mistake.

I like the part where Tokkie says he has "learned one lesson in life". Not two, only one...and that one is that you ignore things that contradict your own bias. That leaves out a lot of good stuff like 'speak when you are spoken to' or ' wipe your ass after dumping'' or 'respect your elders'. All apparently lessons Tok didn't learn. But I guess  old Tok doesn't have to worry much about the last one anymore.

 Mozart - I always respect elders and experts - but what you do not learnt ever is the game of rugby - so you should respect the view of your betters in that respect.  Your new avatar is a joke - the green equates with your rugby knowledge.    

 Dishing up garbage should not be rewarded with a polite shake of the head. 
We should be allowed to express ourselves properly.
The awful showing in the first half and the loss in Cape Town deserved nothing less than a loud booing. In fact the team should have been pelted with rotten fruit.
The were disgraceful. 
The rugby public is tired of this nonsense and so should they be. 

The Boks don't play in Perth this year, had they, and if I would have even bothered to go and they put up a performance as they did for the last one and a half games I would have lead the chorus of abuse. I'm not one to indulge in such behavior, but enough is enough.

 Indeed Moz its not the way I was taught rugby ,cheer the opposition off after shaking hands ,leave it on the paddock,respect the coach and the opposition .And when I was old enough ,at least win the drinking !

Under this reasoning a person being attacked with lethal force has no right to defend himself with lethal force. Right? Because killing someone is bad. So even if it suites our agenda, IE staying alive, it is still unacceptable. Showing your displeasure in a non violent way when you are totally entitled to do so is always acceptable. When a stadium full of people feel cheated, why should they not make their feelings known?
