None of us will ever know...some of us will Google and come up with Porter.

My take , and so will others vary but I remember as a little boy my dad, telling me Piet Du Toit (a relatively small in stature tight head that played for Boks and Boland in fifties/sixties. He could lift an Afrikaaner ox by placing himself underneath and grabbing the 2 front legs...

We really don't know but can have our guesses, ie Ray Mordt , probably the strongest backline player, not a big man but immensensly powerful and one of the hardest to bring down.

Maybe, it could be interesting to hear views from others. It does not mean the heaviest.

Well before my time, but I have read about him. Seems quite immense. On the rugby field, maybe Jerry Collins.

Just looking at Springboks, two names that stand out for me are:

Frik du Preez (Lock), Os du Randt (Prop) the Beast (Prop) Bakkies Botha (Lock) and Chris Koch (Prop 50's player).

Backline powerhouses Mordt (Wing) and Gerber (Center).

NZ had Meads and Hayden.

Oz had Pocock (Flank) and Williams (Lock).

France had a prop in the 1958 series in SA who was nicknamed the "ROCK" but his name eludes me.

Good ones Arthur, another one that springs to mind is Welsh flanker, Alu n Pask. Yes AO , Jerry Collins must be up there. SA hooker Uli Schmidt must be up there too but a vuilgat...just like his dad Louis. Small men like Keith Wood and Piston van Wyk were incredibly strong too. In those days they were genetically powerful, no pumping iron but born that way. Another that springs to the mind is Northern RhodesiaqZambian player (who played for SA, Andy MacDonald who fought off a wounded lioness with bare hands and killed her...super human strength.

I meant to type a few names not two names.

Jammer.

Mamuke Gorgodze, Taniela Tupou and Malcolm Marx are the forwards that come to mind.

Frank Bunce and Henry Honiball are my nominations for strongest backs.

Yes Red, I overlooked him in error.

Mamuka (Godzilla as he is known) is indeed a freakish powerfull man, the only guy that would take Bakkies on...their skirmishes happened quite a few times when they both played for different French franchises but yes I would put Gorgodze even stronger than Bakkies...it appears that they had huge respect for each and were buddies after the games. And Lem had freakish strength too. Frank Bunce, an incredibly strong centre, Jaap Bekker a powerhouse, yes Beast is incredibly powerful all over, Paul O'Connell the past Irish lock and captain, Ruben Kruger and Andre Venter are standout mighty men.

Jaap Becker the man who was so strong NZ brought back the boxer Skinner to punch him in the scrums Piet du Toit and the Beast Gert Muller a wing with a piston handoff H O de Villiers, almost impossible to put away Etzebeth undoubtedly our strongest lock ever Vermeulen never seems to come off second best Duhan Van der Merwe the wing that monstered Dud Toit ……. But the strongest rugby player of all time relative to his position….Lomu, by a mile

Moz, you must have missed it but in yesterdays game Retallick threw Vermeulen aside in a maul. I'm not saying Vermeulen isn't strong but that was not a good look.

I’m surprised he didn’t bite him with those steel teeth!

Just think how much more evidence we’d have if these guys were around today…we’d have a video showing Spiere du Toit picking up that ox for example.

Morné, who is supposedly the weakest 10 in history as per Unter and Dumpfer, put Retallick on his backside without momentum.

Augen, Retallick thought the Bok picnic had started (you know those endless water and "injury" breaks we saw this weekend) so he just sat down for a bit.
