After the Round Robin matches the Re-Uinion commentators selected a team for the Super 15 season and I believe their selections were as follows:-

15    Taylor

14    Pietersen

13    Smith

12    SB Williams

11    Basson

10    Carter

  9    Genia

  8    Reid

  7    Cane

  6    Coetzee

  5    Whitelock

  4    Etzebeth

  3    Frank

  2    Du Plessis

  1   Beast

I may be wrong in respect of 7 and 8 - so please help me on that one.

I have had my reservations about the above team - and would put it as follows:-

  *    I think that Habana performed better than Basson and he is a more brainy player.

  *    Cruden was to my mind better than Carter

  *    Whitelock was a bad taste joke selection and Bekker was much better than him.

After the play-offs I had a number of suggestions on the above team:-

I think for the moment I would only replace Basson and Whitelock in that team - with the players indicated.   However, just under the surface for the moment is Jordaan at 13 and Ludick as full back.   I would also look at Mvovo as one wing.

Now we can wait for the semis and see who could come into the picture as well.   My team selection would change based on semi-performances and I would not be surprised to see Cruden replacing Carter and Cade being replaced by another loosie.    Williamms did very little in his past three games and may also be under threat.

There will always be debate over a few players, but on the whole the team is pretty much on the money....for a change.

i cant see how anyone can argue that cruden isnt the form 10 of the comp. hes played every game for the chiefs, plus two All Black tests. the presence of cruden and SBW has had a lot to do with the chiefs powerhouse status this year.

goosen and leilafano (brumbies) were both in similar form as well and all three conferences were neck and neck, but injury took its toll on those two, while cruden continued to front up week in and week out.

Sasuke, i agree with you can't see why Carter was chosen above Cruden, as you say Goosen and Cruden where the front runners and to a lesser extent Leilafano as he also played some centre as well. But injury spoke so Cruden should get the nod.

Whitelock i don't really agree with there where better locks, Basson just scored alot of tries there where all round better wings.

But no real issues further. I won't complain about that team though it's decent.
