Happy 2018. With Super Rugby just around the corner. I thought be prudent to isolate the players who could break out this year. One player from each franchise.

Crusaders:

Will Jordan: He had a very good ITM Cup. Expect to see more of him this year

Blues:

Sam Nock: Should be behind Pulu. But he has been talked as the next big 9 from Auckland.

Highlanders:

Tyrel Lomax: Promising front rower. Who nearly signed with an Aussie side. Played for the Maori this year againgst the Lions.

Hurricanes:

Asufa Aumua: Already a star. Set too see more game time earlier in the season. Due to Coles absence. Another promising player to look our for. Is Prop Alex Fidow. He was one of the stars of the ITM Cup. Ben Lam is another player I Think well  have a break out year for the Canes. Big, Strong, Quick.

Cheifs:

Atu Moli: Already saw gametime with the abs this year. Promising Prop. Shaun Stevenson is one who should break out this year too.

Brumbies:

Looking at their squad. Probably kiwi born fly half Wharenui Hawera. He had a pretty solid season last year.

Waratahs:

Looking at their squad. I Think Irae Simone seems a promising player.

Reds:

Hamish Stewart a promising young fly half

Rebels:

Amanaki Mafi. Had a very strong season last season. And expect him to be just as good.

Bulls:

Travis Ismail is one I Think has tons of potential

Sharks:

I like the looks of Curwin Bosche

Stormers:

Seabalo Senalta I Think should have a good season

Lions:

Kwagga Smith. I like the looks of him

First of all a prosperous and marvelous 2018 for you, your family and all members on site.

Like all rugby lovers I am sure we are all looking forward to Super Rugby 2018,    It is only 46 days to go before the competition starts and I hope Foxpoert has a Super Rugby Fantasy game this year,

Thanks for your player tips and I would like to add a few too.    I think that some players will be very expensive and one must find some cheap ones as well.     Before I get t that just two comments on some of the players you listed:-

*   I do not think that Bosch will play at flyhalf for the Sharks since Du Preez will move to ths Sharks - where his father is the coach.   Bosch is likely to play at full back this year.

*    To my mind Senatla is a top Sevens player and I think he mayt not play Super Rugby this year.

Now for a few additions to your list:-

*    Wing - Nkosi of the Sharks

*    Centerr - Jackson of the Bulls

*    Flyhalf -  Willemse of the Stormers

*   Scrummie -  Ivan van Zyl of the Bulls

*   Loosie  -   Wiese of the Stormers

*   Lock -  Schickerling of the Stormers

The Aussie teams and the Jaguars under=performed this year and with rare exceptions I am hesitant about selecting players from those five teams.   I also think that the SA teams minus the Cheetahs and the Kings will be stronger in Super Rugby this year - some of their best players moved to other Super Rugby franchises.

However, the Cheetahs are playing in the Guinness Cup comp this year and doing very well.   They were poor in Super Rugby and doing very well in the NH compeotion.   Show how really poor the teams in that competition really is.

I am going to think around the following in my fantasy team this year:-

15   MacKensie, 14  Ioane, 13  Lienert-Brown, 12  Jackson, 11 Milner-Skudder, 10 Harrett, 9 Van Zyl, 8  Savea, 7  Smith, 6  Wiese,  5 Du Toit, 4  Botha, 3  Louw, 2 Marx, 1 Kitshoff

I include Jackson, Van Zyl and Wiese as cheapies and will make sure that some other cjheapies are on the bench.

...not so clever mike, couple of tips mate....rumours has it DMac is not playing fullback for the Chiefs this year so may not be accruing the usual fantasy points while playing at standoff - could be a breakout year at fullback for Shaun Stevenson though if he takes over at fullback...

... and Milner Skudder is one of the most injury prone players in the comp - big gamble there ...

Looking at week 1 round 1 , the only teams playing are:

Stormers vs Jaguars in Cape Town

Lions vs Sharks in Jo'berg

So theoretically your initial teams should be made up of only these 4 teams and hopefully there is an unlimited amount of transfers provided once that round is complete...

Koos Kombuis

You are most welcome on the site and I hope you have a wonderful 2018.

The Fantasy competitions are annual events with  nice price pools.   The game entail the selection of players from all participating teams in the Super Rugby Competition which would comprise of players the member believes will be the best performers during the relevant week,

It is not entirely as easy as it sounds.   You may make transfers every week to cater for replacement of non-performing and injured players - but the number of transfers are limited.

The three institutions operating the competitions are Foxsport, Superbru and  UDT (Ultimate Dream Team).   In all three cases the team comprise of 15 players with an 8 player bench,   The number of Transfers from the bench players to the team is unlimited,   However, the points only apply to the 15 starters/

There is one other complication - namely Foxsport and UDT determine the price of players and you get a maximum amount you can spend.   So you must always look for cheap players - otherwise you wont have sufficient "funds" to participate.

It sounds complicated, but is really not so difficult.    I make a study of all teams playing the relevant weekend and post the teams on site.    It will take about 30 to 60  minutes to make the first selections - but thereafter the changes are made every week will take about 10-15 minutes.

The competitions are very interesting - since it enhances participants knowledge of players and in seeing the games of teams who have representatives in your own Fantasy team enhances your interest in games,

I and some other site members will always be there to help you in becoming part of a very interesting group on site.   We have to join Pools in each of the fantasy competitions and all site members are in the same pools we\ register every year.

From, the above you will notice that we exchange player information from all participating countries so there is a lot to learn from participation by real rugby supporters.
