I think the SA Government is in panic mode and the fact is that the reason for panic has zero to do with sport of any format. It had to do with two problem areas, namely -
* the very high incidence of HIV and TB infection on a major scale in especially the Black community, as well as the high level of blood level pressure and diabetes problems in the said community due to defective diets making for serious potential lost of life should the coronavirus get into those communities on a wider basis; and
* other than in the Western Province the catastrophic situation at state hospitals as a result of defective management and bribery and corruption.
In a memorandum based on the normal flue situation every year in SA where an estimated 10 million people suffer from flue every year in SA and bearing in mind the nasty turn of the illness effecting the vulnerable if the coronavirus is involved should it get into the vulnerable category of people mentioned above Cabinet in a report by experts were informed that -
* the already poor hospital services would be overwhelmed should even 10% of the potential cases require medical treatment in hospitals ; and
* the potential loss of life could be as high as 400 000.
The latter figure are regarded as low compared to what could be expected if the coronavirus gets into the broader vulnerable community and the potential loss of life could end up in the millions. Fact is that before the Government actually allowed for treatment of HIV in SA by the state an estimated 250 000 people died from HIV related illnesses and that was also a low figure compared to the total number of effected people in SA at present,
The Government caused a near to total clamp down in public meetings and there is no hope that any sport activity in SA would be allowed at all when it involves the public being admitted as spectators,
