This weekend will decide who plays who in the Super Rugby playoffs.
The 4 conference winners will be ranked 1-4 depending on their finishing position on the final log so we know who those 4 are, just not the exact order of the top two. Either the Crusaders or Lions will finish on top of the table and the other will finish second, depending on results this weekend where the Crusaders (currently 2 points ahead of the Lions) play the Hurricanes while the Lions play the Sharks.
3rd and 4th places will be taken up by the Hapless Stompies and the Pathetic Brumbies . . . both teams making the playoffs purely because of the ridiculous conference system rather than their performances which were weak. If either of these two teams goes on to fluke a win in this thing then the Super Rugby tournament will be the laughing stock of the sporting world.
Anyway, the next 4 "wildcard" teams (all with more points than the Hapless Stompies and the Pathetic Brumbies) are currently the Hurricanes, the Chiefs, the Highlanders and the Sharks. They will be the 4 wildcard teams but again, the order depends on results this weekend.
Depending on results, the quarterfinals will be as follows (name of current points leader 1st):
1. Crusaders/Lions vs Sharks/Highlanders
2. Lions/Crusaders vs Highlanders/Sharks
3. Hapless Stompies vs Hurricanes/Chiefs
4. Pathetic Brumbies vs Chiefs/Hurricanes
Come on Sharks and come on Lions . . . and come on Hurricanes!
