Super Rugby qualifiers confirmed for next week

The Crusaders will host the Reds and the Brumbies host the Cheetahs

Following the completion of the regular season in Super Rugby the top six teams have been determined and the four teams that will play in the qualifiers next weekend.

By finishing the season as the competition's two highest-ranked conference winners, the Chiefs (66 points, 12 wins) and the Bulls (63 points, 12 wins) have earned the week off and progress straight to the Super Rugby Semi Finals where they await the winners of the qualifying matches.

The Crusaders enter the Super Rugby Finals as the top-ranked 'Wildcard' team and secured a home final with a 25-17 win over the Hurricanes.

They welcome the Reds to Christchurch in a re-match of the 2011 Super Rugby Final.

The Reds only needed one point on Saturday to overtake the Cheetahs and move into fifth spot and they beat the Waratahs 14-12.

The Brumbies claimed the Australian Conference but with 60 points and 10 wins, they finish as the third-ranked conference winner and are subsequently thrust into a showdown with the sixth-ranked Cheetahs who had a bye in the final round of the regular season.

Not sure how the permutations work out- something like this?

brumbies ranked number3

Crusaders ranked number4

-If Crusaders beat the Reds, they play the Chiefs in the Semis (Hamiliton)

-If Brumbies beat the Cheetas, they play the Bulls in the semis (Pretoria)

-If Cheetas beat the Brumbies, they play the Chiefs in the semis

This would mean that Crusaders would play the Bulls in Pretoria.

-If Reds beat the Crusaders this would mean that they play the Bulls.

Then the Brumbies play

Sharkbok You are correct in your breakdown. In effect team 3 on the log plays team 6 and team 4 plays team 5. However, I am not at all sure about what will happen in the play-offs. The Crusaders did not have too hot a game against the Hurricanes and the Reds looked bloody awful against the Waratahs. I think that on average the Crusaders should beat the Reds - but it could be tight despite home ground advantage. The Crusaders did not have an awesome year against Australian teams thuis year - was beaten by the Western Force - but struggled against all the Aussie teams they met - even at home. The Brumbies today was bloody poor and clueless and the Western Force victory was well deserved. Id they play like that against the Cheetahs - they are going to lose. I give the Cheetahs a 50:50 chance in that game and I think it should be borne in mind that none o the Australian teams beat the Cheetahs this year. They beat the Rebels and the Reds at home and the Waratahs and Force away. Especially the victories against the Waratahs and the Reds could be indicators - since both teams beat the Brumbies as well.
