So what have we learnt thus far from the games thus far in Round 17?
I cannot believe what is really going on in the world today – but the signs are no good in Super Rugby as well. So lets start with the rugby today:-
Rugby in Australia is in a mess – a bad one at that
The top Aussie sides have been disappointing this year and the Wallabies not much better than the franchise teams are. The joke is that the top two Aussie sides in Super Rugby in the past have been competitive. This year they were not in the same class.
The Waratahs may still be in the running for a play-off position, that is if the Brumbies lose against the Force – and I would not be at all surprised if that happen. Aussie rugby is going down-hill fast and that kind of lunacy (the Force beating the Brumbies) will show us again that the situation is out of control in Australian Rugby.
So we will have to wait for another game to find out finally which team from Australia will be in the final 8? What is clear is that there will only be one Aussie team in the set-up next week in the play-offs and they are going to be there because of the Conference system. They will be up against a NZ franchise but which one will be lucky enough to travel to Australia to play the Aussie side is a lottery ticket.
The Sharks was Pathetic
The only real thing clarified today was confirmation that the Sharks will go through to the play-offs in the no 8 log position.
It was a pathetic game and the team as a whole was clueless. The NZ franchise that would have a home game in the quarters against the Sharks must be smiling all the way to the bank. They are more or less assured of a place in the semi’s. There is a remote chance that it could yet be the Lions – but I cannot see how the Lions with their “B”-team can beat the Jaguares.
