 Kul
In general good choices for NZ and Australian teams:-
In respect of the SA team you are quite a bit off:-
1.   Schalk van der Merwe2.   Du Plessis3    Redelinghuys     *14    De Jager5    Franco van der Merwe6    Coetzee7    Britz8    Van der Walt9    De Klerk10   Boshoff11   Mvovo12   Watermeyer      *213   De Villiers14   Aplon15   Le Roux
*1   This was a close call - because none of the tightheads showed much
*2   Another close call - because De Allende made a silly mistake and missed a strategic tackle.   Steyn botched everything when he touched the ball and gave away 2 penalties - but he also botched a tackle - which ultimately resulted in the Genia try.   Watermeyer made no silly mistakes like the other two, but he is not the best around.

No Cheetah should be there apart for Van Der Walt. Rhule was shockingly bad, worst of the lot. Strauss was awful, he's becoming like a football player arguing with the ref. Hendricks did fudge all, good God he's slow. Sadie's defence was horrible, his positioning was non existant. Goosen made some silly errors, God how I wished he played last year. Labuschagne is now fat, work rates have gone. Uys is small and inneffective. Sarel Pretorius is stupid, the less I say the better. Caylib Oosthuizen is lazy on defence. Van Dyk is a poor tackler and out of his depth. Frans Venter was awful, he has limited attacking skills and isn't even the shadow of Rob Ebersohn.
Lood, Boom Prinsloo, Le Roux and Van Der Walt were the stand outs for the Cheetahs.

Is the only function of a flyhalf kicking at goal?   The second question is - how many points did Morne lost for the Springboks by his abysmal performances in other functions of a flyhalf - aside from kicking at goal?

We hear how Morné is costing the Boks so much yet he is the only 10 we have that can point to tangible contributions. With Lambie, Goosen, Jantjies et al it's always some esoteric quality that never produces. How can one argue? Morné puts the damn points on the board, what do the rest bring? Nothing. Lambie has of course 1 try in 32 tests to date. But all this talk of 10s is meaningless in the context of backline functionality. If people were more honest here I would go to the trouble of dissecting the anatomy of backline attack. Dogma however is the flavour of the day.

You two make me laugh, you're forgetting one thing Goosen has basically just started his international career.
By that logic Mozart, Morne is a better player than Honiball? Okay.

I was worried about Coenie when that injury report got out - but I also worry about Lappies.  He was injured in the Rebels game and there was a report on it afterwards.
In the first two games Lappies kept up the performance levels of last year.  However, since the Rebels game he has played in both games and was quiet in both.  He also was replaced early in both games - ie around minute 50.   That gives me the idea that he is playing with an injury niggle and I am sure that I am correct. What do you think?
To support my contention - please look at the followbng stat for this year:-

Mozart does that table take into consideration that some players like Percy Montgomery did not kick in all of the tests they played in?
If not the data is not valid because it appears to be an average of all tests, not just the tests they kicked in.

I don't think Morne is the complete flyhalf....he is a Mehrtens, Wilkinson, Jannie de Beer ...but that's always been better than a Spencer, Pretorius, Cooper. Perhaps not at S15 level, but certainly at test level.
If we can have a Carter, who can direct the game and kick like Morne, but add an additional dimension I'd be more than happy. But that's not Lambie, it's not Jantjies. Is it Goosen....we all thought so at one point. But niggling questions have been raised....can he remain healthy, can he kick under pressure, can he effectively defend 10 channel?
I don't know about his injury proclivity. But if he is going to make the pressure kicks, like Monty, he will need infallible technique...he is inclined to have nerves. The 10 channel issue is big. He will be a target, and while he is muscled....he doesn't have real strength to stand his ground. Like Lappies the solution will probably be to bulk up, after which much of the will o' the wisp speed may be history.
Lesson, when a player has to change to be functional in tests, it's best to wait to see how that works out....in the meantime if you have a guy that's top three in the world at kicking and a decent enough player in other regards....you don't dump him.
It will be easier for a good backline coach  to get Morne to add dimension, than it will be for Goosen to beat those three negatives.

SB it's the average points they scored for all their tests, including tries. Gerber ranks high on the list because he was so prolific in try scoring.

Why do you mention Lappies at all - you are  talking kak again.  There is no speed loss in Lappies.  Last year he was weak - this year he lacks speed - what next?   Despite an obvious injury niggle which caused a downturn in his performances and early benching - he still -
*   made 68 tackles at an average of 13,2 tackles per game as against the 24 tackles of Alberts at an aversge of 6 tackles per game.
*   Labuschagne carried the ball 17 times for a meter gain of 59 meters - an average gain of 3,5 meters per carry as  against Alberts  25 carries making 46 meters -  an average gain of 1,8 meters per carry.
You will shout and scream about the pushover tries by Alberts - but thoise are the result of a  team effort - not of an individual player.  And then the "process tackle" issue will be the next deception effort.
The above info proves beyond a shadow of doubt that there was no speed reduction in this case and that Labuschagbe are still a player twice the value Alberts will ever be.
Then - after a dramatic announcement by you according to which Goosen sustained an injury during each of the first four matches in Super 15  this year - you knew better than to make another  dramatic announcement after the latest game since you were looking foolish already by your previous announcements.
As to the following :-
"in the meantime if you have a guy hats top three in the world at kicking and a decent enough player in other regards....you don't dump him"
Stade Francais found out he is not a "decent enough player" to make their starting line-up when Plisson is available - so out of the wi ndow went that argument as well.

Morne doesn't deserve to be mentioned in the same breath as Wilkinson and co. You mention Percy yet you forget the trouble he had throughout his career, constantly having doubters. Nerves? The only time he was nervous was his first start, where his kicking at goal wasn't the best but he was sublime ball in hand. You play your first test for your country, you could feel the emotion as he sung the anthem. You go from playing for the Cheetahs at a barely quarter full free state stadium to playing at Loftus. Of course there's going to be some nerves, but that doesn't factor to the player as a whole.
Mike, I think that Lappies needs to lose the weight he has gotten from the pre-season and return to last season's shape. He isn't as noticeable as last season, his tackles have been high in number but the Cheetahs have had far less possession than their opposition so that's to be expected. On attack he's missing, I have yet to see him make a break that's reminiscent of last season.

Actually no...he missed a few sitters against the ABs in his second test, and wasn't exactly money in his first few S15s this year. I mentioned Monty because he was always an exposed nerve end....he missed a sitter in our streak losing match against the Poms in 98. But when he simplified his motion, he became a rock. I'm suggesting Goosen should study Monty.

Montgomery shortened his run up and this made his kicking more accurate. He learnt this while in Wales. A great attacking player in his early years that unfortunately became a creatine fanatic. When he was bulked up his defence and physicality was much better, but he lost much of his stepping ability and explosiveness .

Sharkbok has hit the nail on the head, I don't think I've ever seen a flyhalf thats had the perfect mix except for Carter. Goosen will never have that mix, while his defence and physicality isn't perfect his attacking play is fantastic.

It is a pity for Goosen that he got injured last year when the Cheetas defense was much better due to employing the specialist coach. Also the breakdown has been a disaster area for the Cheetas this year. As far as I am concerned each game Goosen has looked better, and he should be the first choice at 10 for the Boks.
If he was playing for the Sharks this year I think he would really be outstanding, but still he must be wary after such severe injuries

Not sure where Brussouw is, but I thought he would have been back from Japan
It is early days though, I think this years Super XV is going to be very competitive with the least difference between the top and worst teams loss and win ratio.
So the Cheetas could still challenge for mid table, or even a finals spot- albiet a losing quarter.

Brussow had a toe injury after he came back from Japan, I think he is due back in round 8 - 10. Also the Cheetahs lost that same defence coach to the King's at the end of the Currie Cup.
Share the same sentiments bru, would've really enjoyed seeing Goosen in the 2013 Cheetah team.

@oimatey,

"Whiteley is having the year Lappies did last season, only better."
agreed and so is that red headed superman philip van der walt.

time will tell though whether both can keep it up for the whole season, cos consistency is what made lappies the man last year.

i swear that whittley is my friend/exflatmate back homes doppelganger, lolz,

would like to have subbed out jaco kriel from my foxsport team for van der walt or whittley this week, but both have a bye next week making that transfer not very efficient. and with no wildcard under my belt, efficiency is uber important.
