SuperRugby Predictions - South African Log

It is the last season of the now lowly SuperRugby 15 tournament before it reverts back to Super14. And it could not have come sooner with many of the best Southern Hemisphere players plying their trade in the higher paid Northern Hemisphere, and even Japan.

For many of the SA teams, the last 5 years have been a continual rebuilding process-  some squad players are not even SuperRugby standard. An example is Dan Kriel - the plodder that should not even be a professional sportsperson. 

2020 however, has been hit even worse. A post-world cup year, further decline in the rand and billionaire club owners have seen the North more lucrative than ever. 

Some of the best prospects have been poached from the junior divisions before making a name in SuperRugby and will be eligible under the 5-year law to represent other countries. 

Many of the SA teams also have very inexperienced coaches, or the experienced ones are just plain useless. 

Predictions -

1. Jaguars - The 2nd best team in last years tournament. 

2. Stormers - They have been the SA team least affected by player departure gates.

3. Sharks  - They still have some quality players and experience. The backline is good. The cockroach coach Robert Dupreez is also gone. However they have a new coach- is he potential or just another useless waist of space. 

4. Lions - New coaching staff. Will they retain their attacking brand of rugby? Have also recruited lots of geriatric players to offset the lack of coaching experience. 

5. Bulls - Expect the Bulls to be udder BS this year. Their coach is a dolt, and they have had the biggest player drain.

Without the conference may I suggest the lowest spots on the table? 

Yes, by all means, knock yourself out

Just a  bit of advice the fact is it is a Super Rugby series with 15 franchises - not 16.   

All the SA teams and some of the NZ and Australian teams suffered  player departures.

My guess is  that -

*   Three of the SA Conference teams, 

*   Four of the NZ Conference teams

*   One of the Aussie Conference teams will be in the play-offs

I think it is too early to identify which teams are going to go through.- we must wait auntil Round 3 to see what is happening.

Ross Specman said the Bulls only do kick and chase, and he is not used to getting such little opportunity in a game of rugby. Totally devoid of any ideas. The outside backs tackle, chase and occasionally get a few scraps of turnovers.

Unfortunate Mitchell did not get more time at the province, if he had been their for a few years he could have built a good team. 

Well ... being world chumpions and all, the final should be contested by two SA sides this year.

Willemse has a long way to go for a top 10...over eager 3say the least. Play him elsewhere...I'll pick him at 12 and 15.

I think Mike is more or less right and after the Jaguares performance this morning they will top our section...the Jaguares versus Stormers should be an interesting one but I think the Jags are too good in virtually every aspect of the game...virtually a flawless display against the Lions...Elton Jantjies is not a captain and I don't think the Bulls will be last.

Again the Crusaders will definitely be the ones to beat, I would like to see how they would go in South America...but they will they only play them once at the Orangetheory on the 24/4/20...and no return match at Estadio Jose Amalfitani...I wonder why???

Each team plays 16 games, facing opponents from their own conference twice, while playing each team from the other conferences once.  Teams get four points for a win, two for a draw and one bonus point if they score three more tries than their opponent, or lose by seven points or less. Positions on the league table. Positions at the end of the league fixtures determine which teams go through to the knockout phase.

Sure that's the way it works fair enough but it's a little strange that lightning always in this case seems to strike twice in the same place.

The Stormers however have to face them away on the 21/3/20.

LOL...maybe it's just luck of the draw but one cannot help being suspicious. We all know the Saders are the ones to beat and rule at Christchurch...it might well be a slightly different story in Buenos Aires.

What system of selection of  home or away venues for the one game that each team plays outside their conferences and how this is determined...does the team ranked higher from previous year get the preference? I think this must be case or is it a lottery draw. Couldn't find how it's determined. Can anybody clarify this?

You tried the same diversion tactic that you are trying now. You are trying to focus the attention away from your embarrassing balls up with the fractions and towards the question of the irrelevant issue of what the lethal limit is. Fact is the bloke pegged. Even if the lethal limit was 0.5, he would still have been dead. 

Same tactic that you are trying with the Bulls Lions scenario. The Bulls ending last and the Lions “laster” than the Bulls.

"ending laster". Means the end fo the tournament. The Bulls were playing at home, and they were hopeless. When they went overseas, it would get even worse.

 1 point for almost half a season at home - and they have not even been overseas... The Lions and Sharks had their overseas games, so the Lions were bound to win some home games.

The facts remain my predictions usually come to pass.
