Not sure how this would work or if it's just a case of anything SA can do ... we can do better.

But diluting the Super XV is 'nt an improvement IMO. If it aint broke then don't fix it.

Lets hope common sense prevails in the end and the Super XV comp stays as it is.

The players' association is cautious about the possibility of a sixth New Zealand Super Rugby franchise.

SANZAR boss Greg Peters says there's been a move within the country for a sixth franchise to join the competition from 2016, when a new broadcast deal will be in place.

Players association boss Rob Nicol told Radio Sport's Brendan Telfer it may surprise many but their main concern is the integrity of Super Rugby.

"And that whatever the competition is it stacks up for fans, it stacks up for the quality of the rugby, and for the players and commercially.

"Otherwise eventually it all falls down, doesn't it? And that doesn't do the players anything."

While Greg Peters has assured South Africa they'll have a sixth franchise from 2016, Rob Nicol says nothing should be agreed to until everything else is agreed.

i believe that the integrity of super rugby has already been compromised, aussies having a 5th team despite not having classy depth to be able to sustain them, luckily for them the ITM is just around the corner, otherwise they would be even more kaput. NZ players are the only reason the aussies are as strong as they are.

its a mistake to have a 6th team from NZ, last thing we want is to be like the SA conference who have monopolised 50% of the bottom three teams since super rugby turned pro, that is one embarrassing record NZ should not aspire too.
i dont think that would happen if we did have a 6th team, but best we sort out the affairs of the hurricanes and highlanders before we start talking about a 6th team.

also think that SA has made enough noise to get a 6th team, not from merit, i mean 13 from 18 wooden spoons plus the 50% of the bottom three teams ever coming from them??? o_O
but they do have significant revenue potential and thats cash will as in most cases triumph over logic.

plus side for the ANZAC countries is that our bottom feeder teams wil have a much easier time against SAs equivalent.

hmmmmm, thinking about it some more, i cant see any way around a two conference like set up unless they go for something drastic like the heineken cup format i proposed on another thread.
interesting times ahead, o_O
