Taute Signs for Stormers

 it has been confirmed this morning that Jaco Taute has signed for the Stormers. Looks like the Stormers will have a lot of depth come next year.

My only concern though is the Alistair has never been known for how to manage players or rotate them. He would normally stick with players until they break down. 

So it might just be a waste of an oppertunity for the Stormer to give all of their front line players decent oppertunity. We may end up seeing a few more promising Stormers players leave the union.

Now we just have to find our of Jantjies will signing to play next year. I have mixed feelings about, on one hand Stormer is desperate for an attacking flyhalf, but you also don't want a flyhalf that can't tackle. 

A few years ago, we heard how the Stormers are going to set the world alight with their new signings, i.e. Jaques Fourie, Brian Habana, CJ van der Linde, etc etc etc. The have not won the CC just prior to that. They have not won it with those players. Some of them have left again. They still have not won anything, and they have again signed "stars". Oh wait. They have won the coveted Conference Trophy.....................

I think that Taute will be in a bad position.   Coetzee is tied to the two worst franchise - provincial centers in SA - namely Brache and De Jongh.   The best combination would be Du Plessis and Taute - but we can forget about that one.     Maybe he would think that playing next to Jean De Villiers will benefit him - but Jean cannot last much longer.   Hope Coetzee wakes up from his slumber - stop flogging dead horses - and pick talented players, not effectiveless duneces as centers.

Insofar as the Sharks are concerned he will get very little game time there.   The Sharks have Francois Du Plessis, Whitehead and Jordaan.   It is very unlikely that the Sharks will play Taute ahead of Jordaan.   In any event - the Sharks were not looking for centers this year.

Insofar as the other franchises are concerned - the Bulls is the graveyard of promising cneters.   I think it has been proven that centers signing up with the Bulls are suicidal insofar as their future career is concerned.   Sadie left at own request and now I understand there is a move afoot for Engelbrecht to go to the Queens - the latter is even a worse career move.   They still have Serfonetin and does not even use him.

Insofar as Jantjies is concerned - I personally hope that the Stormrs will make a huge mistake if they think he would help improving their backline performances.    In my opinion - if he does go tp the Stormers - they would select him for five or  six  gmes nd then drop him like a hot potato.  Bad buy - that one.    

What muncher and other are very surpringly missing is the deliberate and really very  intentional change in the WP style of play. It has been noted that the soley defence based style needs augmentation with the addition of good attacking play. We have seen the WP running the ball to good effect.

We should have an excelllent backline next year:

Groom (a very nice scrummie this) Jantjes, Habana, Jean, Du Plessis, Van Der Heever and Taute.  That behind the dominant Stormers pack should ensure a nice flow of tries. We also have Schreuder, Duvenage, Grant, Van Aswegan, De Jongh, Allende, Howard, Aplon, and Pietersen. Brache needs to work hard in the off season and maybe he can feature as a back up as well.
 

Only bad coaching, injuries and bad refs can stop us. Even altitude cant stop us. The side will be too strong for the Bulle and Lions are out of it for 2013.

Muncher you lose cred when you compare the has been currie cup to the SA Conference Trophy. Wake up and smell the roses! You are out of date boet - just like your assessment of the WP sytle of play is out of date.

The SA Conference trophy? U talking about the meaningless trophy with a history of 2 yrs compared to the CC with a history of over 100 years? LMAO!

Anyway, when it comes to Super rugby nobody remembers the conference winner. Its all about who got to the final ...... & the Sharks made the Stormers their little bitches in the semi. Hahahahahahahahaha!!!!

Nice backline you have there - but you must hope that Van Aswegen recovers quickly from his injury problems.   You will need him urgently to replace the flyhalf in that teem - since they will find out to their horror they have sigbed a dud  insofar as attacking backline play is concerned.    Maybe they could also use Schreuder as flyhalf as well - he did very well when he came on last Saturday insofar as attacking play is concerned.

I hope you haven't lied about not being Rooinek.....Old Fruit. Because that last posting about WP was spot on with his style.

great signing for the stormers and a season of playing besides JDV will reap heaps of bennifits for taute.

im a big believer that old players have a lot to offer and it can only serve young and very green taute right in the long run.

stormers do have a very pro defense style, but janties and taute will both add a unique style which will see changes gradually happen over time.

the one thin g that that taute adds is first class depth for the stormers and coetzee will be in a better place to manage his teams playing time, without compormising player fatigue.

stormeres will be a real threat in 2013 like usual and their new recruits might just give them that extra edge,
 

i really think taute's style would have been way more effective for him at the sharks. the stormers just like the bulls lack that edge in the back due to there respective styles.

it would have been a smarter move hom him to go to the sharks but lets see how he goes at the stormers. expect no cups to run all the first choice players into the ground before the playoffs

I have got plenty right Moz - I said Morne was crap and should go, I said Jean would never work at 13, I said Etzebeth would be a star, I said Taute would be good at 13.............should I carry on.

Now if only Meyer had listened, we might have won 80% of our tests this year.............he will eventually wake up to the fact that Lambie is a must at 15, Taute, JJ or JP are the answers at 13, Frans is a must at 12, Goosen and Jantjies are the answers at 10, Hougaard is a must at 9, Steph du Toit needs to be brought into the equation at lock, Coetzee should be starting and the likes of Kolisi, Brussouw, CJ Stander, Elstadt and Arno Botha should be brought into the Bok loosie mix.....its simple really

I admit Jean had a poor stretch at 13, but not as poor as Taute against NZ. And Morne was poor this year, but no worse than Jantjies against NZ. And everybody picked Etzebeth.

So two of your negative calls panned out. But apart from the obvious one, Etzebeth, none of your positive calls worked out. By worked out I mean.....stayed in the Bok starting team and didn't contribute materially to our losses. Not Taute, not JJ, not Coetzee, not Goosen, not Jantjies, .....nor the ones you don't mention Daniels, Greyling, Werner Kruger, Hougaard at scrummie and Mvovo. Greyling ....really?

Wrong Moz, it would have been a disaster for me if the Boks had won 80% of their tests - our results show that Meyer got it wrong selection wise. Had he stuck to my selections, we would have done far better.

As for Jantjies worse than Morne in the AB test, what crap - it was concluded Jantjies had a solid outing against the AB's

So to stress, has Meyer gone with more of my calls, we would have done better and the results prove that

I believe without a question of doubt a believer in renewal of the team - but definitely not in selection of players purely based on their ages and early promise in less-important competitions.   During a renewal process as at present being on the go - there will be players that are selected making or not making the grade, whilst others would not be successful.   That to my mind is a given and must be accepted as such.  

However, I do believe that in deling with the issue one can purely look at what happened in cases where players came on from the bench in test matches - as a norm whether they have made the grade or failed.   Most of the players (other than Etzebeth and Coetzee) had very little playing time on international level.   Taute had the most at about 140 minutes and some played only for 10 to 15 minutes.   That is not a reasonable enough time to assess player capacity.

I think players should first proof through a full season playing Super 15 and CC that they are really fit to play in the positions in the Springbok team they are selected for.   Take for instance Taute - in 2011  he played for the Lions at full back and was really good - this year he played for half the season at center and also played in the latter position during the cuirrent CC season.   That type of thing makes assessment much more difficult.

In any event  some of the listed players - Etzebeth and Coetzee (I differ from you on the latter) did make their mark.   The other players have to be assessed on the limited time they  played for the Springboks - coupled to their performance on Super 15 level and CC.   Of those I have no doubt thay Goosen would make a success  as a Springbok.   Looking at preformances during the tests they were played in for very limited time and bearing in mind there performances in Super 15 and CC, I would say the following about the players mentioned:-

Those that Will not make the Grade

Engelbrecht and Jantjies

Those that should be subject to further Assessment

Taute and Mvovo

Where  I agree with you is that all the younger players need constructive fuither development and for that specialized coaching is an absolute requirement.

taute is the product of the carlos spencer backline school at the lions and to behonest he has really developed well over the last couple of years. its take time to develop a rounded attacking free thinking player.

as i said before there needs to be futher position specific training where the player needs to be exposed and taught of the relevant skills in a any area. that is why i am a big pundit of a academy there young players get taught and schooled by the greats of the game. taute can really be taken to a insane level but bad coaching can rear end anoy amount of talent very very quickly
