While we are on the theme of Donkeys, I'm trying to make a Bok team full of real Donkeys...

The only 2 criteria are that they must have represented the Boks on at least 1 occasion and appear to lack brain matter...

1 Dean Greyling

2 Henry Tromp

3 Werner kruger

4 Adri geldenhuys

5 Lard Davids / Rudi Visagie

6 Jacques Porgieter

7 ? (Only legends have represented the Boks at 7)

8 Rudolph Streuli

9 Johan Roux

10 Gaffie du Toit

11 Pieter Hendriks

12 Jorrie Muller

13 ?

14 Pieter Rossouw

15 Ricardo Loubscher (Percy is a close second... he lacked some brains on a few occasions)

@Chippo- A strong assemble of Donkeys. I would like to add one more that springs to mind.

10. Flyhalf- Braam Van Straaten(or brain dead braam)-This donkey could kick for post- he could tackle, that is where it ended. Perhaps the donkey of all time- and that he played flyhalf is an even greater achievement for Donkey Kind.

A real ensemble of the brain dead you have here,   Why not Dewald Potgieter at no 7 or even John Deysel.   What about that prop Du Toit - whom Kirkpatrick dubed the referee  into sending him off for biting him?   Could be on the bench.   You can always move Jorrie Muller to 13 and put Butch James in at 12 - he really was in a school for children with learning difficulties.

I agree with Sharkbok - Braam van Straaten is a better candidate than Gaffie Du Toit at 10.

What is really amazing is that Straueli was the Springbok coach and still in the Sharks set up - whilst Loubscher and Slap Chips  both attached to the Blue Bulls coaching staff and that Loubschher is now the Springbok backline coach.

Believe me - the competition is strong for a lot of the positions in the team - and the question often is - the bigger the size - the smaller the brain - is it not?:)

You can put down Jean Deysel at 7. Pieter Hendriks???? Not so sure, maybe Dean Hall. Also Russel Bennet.

Every player lacked some brains on some occassions

Pretty sharp situation we have here. A bunch of self appointed psycho analysts making a judgement on somebody else's intelligence.

One example. Pieter Rossouw who is a back-line coach with a few Super Rugby titles to his credit, while it is sort of general consencus that the back-line players are supposed to be the more sharper pencils in the pocket.

Kevin DeKlerk ex Lions- could be the administrator, with Braam Van Straaten as head coach and Jorrie Muller as defence coach. Werner Kruger must be one of the favourites as captain. PDV could be the media officer to deal with interviews.

hahahaha....all they need is a plow

i have seen braam butcher open space on so many times wow....all they players sure as hell loves the embrace of other players more than running into space.

jorie loved to run into players as well....i remember the once instance were he butcherd a gap so big i bet i could have driven a 747 through it.

these players represent a dark time in SA rugby. i am really happy things are better now than in the early 2000's...its better now but not much better

Hey Chip...

How about slotting fat flip into the number 7 jersey?

He even looms stUpid.

How many more times do we have to see him being penalized for killing the line out jumper????

and besides that, what else does he do?

Donkey rating - 8/10

After yesterdays performance it is clear that the competition to be part of the donket team is really getting hot.   Kirchner is a strong candidate and so are is the Steyns.   Flip is an automatic seleftion - so we need a new donkey combination at lock.

ex Sport24-

Another proposed team of Donkeys since 1999- http://blogs.sport24.co.za/mickeynelster/2012/09/04/the-worst-combined-springbok-team-post-1999/

The Worst Combined Springbok Team Post 1999

September 4, 2012 in Uncategorized

Let’s start with the Coach. We’ve had some real Gems in the past. Viljoen, PDivvy and even Heyneke is making a charge but it is early days for him yet.

The worst coach Post 1999 must be Rudolf Straeuli

15. Zane Kirchner (our current backline coach could also feature, Ricardo Loubser)

14. Dean Hall

13. Jorrie Muller (Grant Esterhuisen)

12. Wynand Olivier (Wayne Julies)

11. Henno Mentz

10. Gaffie du Toit (when he played flyhalf) ( Derrick Hougaardt)

9. Dave von Hoeselin

8. Pierre Spies

7. Hilton Lobberts

6. Luke Watson

5. Geo Cronje

4. Quinton Davids

3. ?

2. Dale Sandton

1?

This is an old favourite. The main 2014 contenders are- Werner Kruger, Dewald Potgieter, and many other Bulls who were a joke this year.

Can't see why Lois Koen and Eddie Andrews didn't make that list not to mention the incomparably useless Wayne Julies.

I think in dealing with donkey players you have toi think of the players without ball sense in the first instance and relying on physicality only.   Those players really showed that they cannot be relied upon to play any thinking rugby.
In that category the main contenders would be in the flyhalf position - and obviously also in scrummies and inside centers.
Stiff competition for the number 10 position.  Morner Steyn never was a decent flyhalf - the others were neither.  The list of 10's should include Braam van Straaten, Gaffie du Tot and Morne Steyn.   I would put Morne Steyn near the top of the list since he has had more opportunities to play thinking rugby and regularly buggered it up badly.

I would have to think a bit about the other crucial positions mentioned.

Should we start to think about adding some new names to the list??
Earl Rose looks like a decent addition to the list!
