Mozart: I am living in Poland - not too much rugger here mate, lol
I lived in Brussels for 6 years prior to that but our real base is Washington DC. We lived there for 35 years and still own a house there.

A house that's probably appreciating nicely in value.....one of the few decent US property markets these days! I assume from that, that you are planning to return one day.

Yes, we like it in Europe but as our grown-up kids live in the US (Ohio) we figure we will move back in 4 or so years. You are right about the property values being good, nice little nest egg for when we are really old fogies, lol
You are based in Chicago? Really nice in the Summertime. I have visited it a few times & saw the sights and went to Joe Ditka's pub/restaurant for a steak . Not bad, he had a cigar room (old world style).

Coincidence, one of my kids has just returned to Chicago from Ohio. We are actually up north in a rural suburb, it's not Cape Town, but a nice life. As you say the kids eventually define the choices.

Boklogic: left NZ at 20 for the "land of opportunity" (USA). Just got lucky there and got a foot hold. I have returned to NZ almost every three years as my father and sister live there.
Still a kiwi through-and-through but life's opportunities, blind luck and by wife and kids keep me living elsewhere. Chances of resettling in NZ are small as my kids and wife are "American" but I still claim they are kiwis. lol
