De Jongh, Fransie bubbling under, Zeilinga bubbling under, Victor, Alberts and Stegman.....bon appetite OOM and Dave I hope your egg is all to your taste.....waaaahahaha!

Team of the Week - Round Seven:

15 - Jason Woodward (Rebels):
He put down a huge marker - his six penalties, two conversions and a try already a worthy contribution. However, it was the fact that he beat six defenders that convinced us.
Bubbling under: Mils Muliaina (Chiefs)

14 - Alapati Leiua (Hurricanes):
He made three  clean breaks and beat seven defenders on his way to more than 100 running metres.
Bubbling under: Odwa Ndungane (Sharks)

13 - Juan de Jongh (Stormers):
One of the few players from Cape Town who showed real desire and intent - even managing an off-load to confound his critics.
Bubbling under: Adam Ashley-Cooper (Waratahs)

12 - Mitch Inman (Rebels):
Plenty of tackles and metres made, to go along with a couple of clean breaks and defenders beaten.
Bubbling under: Francois Steyn (Sharks):

11 - Julian Savea (Hurricanes):
Not just a finisher, but also a player who can make clean breaks and beat defenders to make a huge contribution to a great win.
Bubbling under: Patrick Osborne (Highlanders)

10 - Aaron Cruden (Chiefs):
Was instrumental in his team's comeback to secure a famous draw.
Bubbling under: Fred Zeilinga (Sharks)

9 - Bryn Hall (Blues):
Probably the brightest young scrumhalf in New Zealand this season.
Bubbling under: Will Genia (Reds)

8 - Steven Luatua (Blues):
Not just a physical specimen that is good with ball in hand, but makes a valuable contribution on defence and in the line-outs.
Bubbling under: Ryan Kankowski (Sharks)

7 - Luke Braid (Blues):
While some may talk about his work at the breakdown, it is on defence where he made his biggest contribution.
Bubbling under: Matt Todd (Crusaders)

6 - Deon Stegmann (Bulls):
He has been a key player in turning the Bulls' season around and it is worth noting the Chiefs' fortunes changed after he left the field and the visitors' possession became available more freely and much quicker.
Bubbling under: Nizaam Carr (Stormers)

5 - Victor Matfield (Bulls):
Still causing chaos in the line-outs at the ripe old age of 36.
Bubbling under: Luke Jones (Rebels)

4 - Willem Alberts (Sharks):
Made a very successful move from the back row to the second row.
Bubbling under: Rob Simmons (Reds)

3 - Jannie du Plessis (Sharks):
The consistency may be lacking, but when he is on song he is a destructive force.
Bubbling under: Werner Kruger (Bulls)

2 - Bismarck du Plessis (Sharks):
Not his finest hour, but he still got the highest number of votes from our panel.
Bubbling under: James Hanson (Reds)

1 - Tendai Mtawarira (Sharks):
The Beast is back to his best.
Bubbling under: Tony Woodcock (Blues)

When will you ever learn - there is no real reason to have any faith in the selections by these rugby writers.   They sometimes come up with real monkey selections and this one was typical.
The no 12 selection is a real joke - Inman and bubbling under Francois Steyn.  They really must have lost their marbles in this case.  Really a funny one.  The rest of their selections are as iffy in quite a number of cases.
Juan de Jongh ahead of Ryan Crotty, Conrad Smith and Ashley-Cooper is really a nut case situation.

Well who am I going to believe a Natal Provincial administration retiree, or a group of 5 rugby writers?   Your bias clouds your judgement....as you can see other people see the world differently. And even if some might argue there are better selections, this TOW demonstrates that de Jongh, Zeilinga, Steyn, Alberts, Matfield and Stegman all had excellent games by most accounts.

Enjoy your egg.

Balls as per normal  first the personal attack.   How many times do I have to tell you I never worked for the Natal Provincial Administration - are you bloody dumb or just pretending to be!!
This team of the work was utter BS - in line with what they produced in the past.  They must be kidding if they think De Jongh was better than Crotty and virtually all the other 13's who played.
And Francois Steyn was as per normal poor.   It is rare that a player gets a minus score on Foxsport for performance - he has achieved that distinction in Saturday - minus 4 to be exact.   That means he buggered up virtually everything he did.  Given away three penalties must have counted in his favour for these rugby writers to ignore.
Talk about [prejudice - there is no more prejudiced person on this site than you are.  I may use stats to support my point of view  - you use deception and at times fibs to try and support your viewpoints.   And of course rugby writers -  a collection of writers who try and write players they support into the Springbok team.
Matter of fact damn funny to see your normal hogwash and espec ially those of the rugby writers.

Man you wouldn't know a stat if it hit you right in your wrinkled gizzard. What's a variance, what are confidence limits, what is a conditional probability. What you are quoting is raw data. ...it hasn't even been refined by one step. Man you are one dumb old coot.....but amusingly, you think you actually know stuff. Typical provincial administration  thinking.

You really are a genius in writing crap on this site.  Under another thread you use "raw data"  to condemn Serfontein - so you may use raw data - nobody else may.  That is absolute rubbish and if you think you can intimidate me with insults you will have no success.
Since you are older than I am "you  wrinkled gizzard.  Man you are one dumb old coot.....but amusingly, you think you actually know stuff"

Actually I don't use stats to make up my mind.....I observe Serfontein charging Olivier- like into the first defender and conclude he has a problem.....and then I check the data to make sure I'm not missing anything obvious. Only an old provincial administration retiree would rank players based on raw data. Capiche?

I only use stats when it is evident through a series of games that a player has as a positive or a negative.  If players for instance have a propensity to miss tackles in each game he played in - that becomes a tendency on that player's part.
There is serious similarities between Serfontein and Steyn.   They both  charge  Olivier- like into the first defender.   BOTH HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM.  To say that one has and the other one has not is a biased and farcical assessment.
Then followed the laughable stupid personal attack - do you have nothing else to use - you farcic al old coot?

Mike, you are starting to embarrass yourself bro..This Steyn tirade has gone on too long and the man is producing top quality performances week in and week out and being hailed by rugby men all over the show but you maintain he is poor.
This tune is getting old now. You wanted Steyn to fail..You lost..Move on..Start playing a new tune...
I see another post not even relating to Fransie that you dedicated a whole piece to him..This is clearly personal for some reason but it really is making you look like a spoilt brat..
Steyn will do negative things..He is such an influential player and imposes himself on a game so much that he will do bad but it will be in amongst a whole heap of good. Get over this hate for him..He is the best SA 12 at the mo. Will see what Jean says about that now that he is back at 12 but Fransie has been it!

First of all - I do not hate any player.  I write what my eyes tells me.   I think that Steyn does not meet the expectations I saw in him on his return from France - and is disappointed in what I saw match after match.
The same lack of penetration, the same loss of ball possession, the same donation of penalties every game.  I wish I could see the "whole heap of good" you refer to., but personally I have unfortunately not seen it.
I agree - I tend to go overboard in his case - but it is often when I have my dialogue with Mozart on player issues that it pops up.   I will not respond to Steyn issues again - but I also hope that he improves and show us what I believe he really is capable of.
Thus far there is no evidence that he should be the test center at 12  and if he is in his present form it will be disastrous for the Springboks.

Remember the Sharks best year yet in Super rugby..2007..Brad Barritt was our centre with Waylon Murray outside him..Brad did the hard yards. He made the big hits..He was a rock..You rarely see Brad make a clean line break. He is not a fleet footed player. He was a creator. Unlike Jean who has the strength and pace to break the line.
Murray made plenty line breaks that year and ultimately won selection to the Bok squad. Brad was very instrumental in that.
Frans and Brad are very much the same. Not every 12 has to break the line every run..Does not mean they are useless. Just like Brad was a rock on defence and creator on attack, Frans is the same. It works! Just believe that Frans is working! Your eyes do not need to see him break the line every run..Jordaan was on fire prior to his injury so Frans is not breaking down as you think. He is putting Jordaan into space. He is playing well.
Forget about Fransie being a Ma'a Nonu or Tim Bateman..He is a grafter, creator and rock in our midfield. He is invaluable! Absolutely indispensable and you need to realise that Mikey..

Peace brothers if that's possible...you both remind me of Walter Matthau and Jack Lemmon...the Odd Couple, except rugby stats and not habits is the bone of contention, well maybe the Bone Collector too....lolz.

de Jongh over Ashley Cooper for a start is an insult.......de Jongh got owned when an attacker ran straight through him......not to mention his liability in contact......that team of the week is a joke........add Alberts and Matfield to that list......which idiot came up with this team of the week?

Nobody expect from a 12  to break the line every run.   I agree that does not mean they are useless.   Sure - but one break would have been wonderful in the present series - but just was not in evidence since the second game.
" Just like Brad was a rock on defense and creator on attack, Frans is the same. It works! Just believe that Frans is working!
I am particularly wary about Steyn's defense.  To my mind he misses too many tackles and he lacks some speed in defense.  Allowing players like H arris and De Klerk to beat him by speed and mistiming attempted tackles is not a real confidence booster on my part. .
"Jordaan was on fire prior to his injury so Frans is not breaking down as you think. He is putting Jordaan into space. He is playing well."
To be quite frank - I have not seen much in the form of creativity as well.   In the Hurricanes game for instance he did not pass a single ball to Jordaan - in other games the number of passes by Steyn are also very few and far between..  That being the case  Jordaan do not get enough ball to play his natural creative game.
I frankly would like to see that Steyn do not run straight at attackers like he is prone to do at present - try and draw in defenders and create space for players outside of him.  I have seen very little of that thus far this year.
Steyn has the physique to play a very good game at 12 - he has a bit of a speed deficiency  - but he should do well by playing thinking rugby.  Hope that materializes.

The team is selected by 5 journalists....not one "idiot" as you put it Dave. Four out of the five selected Victor, two out of the five selected Alberts and de Jongh. I know that's feeding the monkey, but I have to be honest.

De Jongh missed one tackle right at the start of the game, but was a Trojan after that. His tackle to save a try five metres out....low and from behind is the kind of thing Springbok centres used to do.

That team of the week is a joke.........de Jongh was not even the best SA 13 for a start. That missed tackle at the start was pathetic.......it was a one on one. But more concerning was the way he was owned in contact situations......the guy is far too small for a 13.......that game yet again confirmed that.

As for Matfield and Alberts being the best locks.......that is simply insulting. Lewies for a start was better than Matfield

Add to that - Malherbe was much better than Du Plessis at tight head.
Mozart misses the boat here completely.  These rugby writers have an agenda that includes writing players into the Springbok team.  When they select players - you have to take that into account.   That is why what they come up at times can be described as utter bullshit.
To take that Team of the week as gospel - as Mozart tends to do when all else fails - is really a joke in bad taste.

I was actually going to select Malherbe at 3, but the poor Stormers team performance had me favour Jannie. Malherbe had a good game as did Kitshoff given the lightweights they had behind them.

That v/Vuuren was an insult at lock........1.92m and 100kg........what a bloody joke.......is Coetzee just stupid?

A player who does well in a poor team environment deserves more credit than one who does well in a better team.  Even when their performances are equal - which was not the case here (Malherbe was factually better than Du Plessis) - the first player is definitely the better one.

Actually on the YE tour I noted how porous his defence was.....a relevant issue because he was supposed to be much better than Jannie in that regard. Scrumming wise he was a neutral no more. Coenie was the tighthead I rated, now sadly under a cloud again.

You are talking crap as per normal.  In the Wales test Malherbe was scrumming opposite Jenkins - who was the Lions no 1 tighthead in Australia.  He was better than Jenkins and gave him serious problems.  So how average was he?   In the one game he made more tackles than Jannie on average does in three games.  He did much more than Jannie does in all facets of the game  - so he will miss more tackles than Jannie does.  Malherbe will attempt tackles - where Jannie would do nothing and just look on.
Mozart - once you write something about a player - one has to beware - prejudice is in evidence all the time.

Jenkins was only the number one in name, Mike ( and because he was Welsh )
He didn't play much as he was injured. Corbisiero and Grant were called up as cover. We all know what happened with regards the former, and Vunipola also played in his absence.
