Given the squad the team could be: Kriel Lleyds Allende Frans Skosan Jantjies Hougaard .. Beast Marx Malherbe Etzebeth Mostert Vermeulen/JL du Preez Kolisi Whiteley No Lions' core in those 5 players. Players from teams including overseas teams playing vastly different styles. It's hard to see how this team comes together....it feels so Italy.

Fat Fransie -  the famous backline destructor -   have you learnt nothing from his stats while destroying the Sharks backline in 2014?
There can never be a worse backline selection than Fat Fransie.   By far worse than Morne Steyn and he was bad enough.
You must really be kidding to suggest that has been should be included in any team - do you want to see a further lost series = he will guarantee losses against the French - they will simply run at him and his defense will disintegrate as happened in the last game this season in which he played for Montpellier.

Well HasBeen I can't see many ways to improve the team from the existing squad......looks like France are missing a few key players as well. One could play Coetzee ahead of Kriel, pull Vorster out of the A team instead of Allende. Wilco ahead of the useless Malherbe, Kleintjie ahead of Kolisi. But it still doesn't fill one with confidence.

Fat Fransie will be starting. Although he could give the backline some more experience and be a good influence on Jantjies.
I would try Mostert at 7, and put Stephanie at 5No recognised fetchers in the squad, other than the Vermuelen.

I certainly don't want Stepfontein and Kriel in the centres, they have been regularly upstaged in Super Rugby. I think du Preez is a better bet than Stephanie on the flank, who is just too porous. That makes it a straight choice between him and Mostert at 5....it could go either way....or they could choose the bog ordinary Lomp.

You have not answered - what will useless  Fat Fransie - regularly exposed as a poor center - and even called no center at all by Plumtree - bring to the Springbok backline?   He has been shown up badly in 2014 and even in his last game for Montpellier and has been playing for Montpellier as a protegee of White and the same for the Sharks - but he remains a has-been who have out-eaten his usefulness as a player.

Our rugby is in dire straights but for the Lions and to think the utterly useless Coetzee is still in charge.......I struggle to hold my interest in the SA cause these days given Coetzee being in charge, the mass exodus of players and the pathetic 30 test cap rule for foreign based players

Given the squad, which is predictably short of merit players, my Bok side would be:

15. Coetzee 14. Skosan 13. Kriel 12. Serfontein 11. Rhule 10. Jantjies 9. Hougaard 1. Kitshoff 2. Marx 3. Malherbe 4. Etzebeth 5. PSDT 6. Kriel 7. Mostert 8. du Preez

16. Mbonambi 17. Beast 18. Coenie 19. Lood 20. Kolisi 21. Paige 22. Frans Steyn 23. Lleyds

Too many class acts missing

Whiteley has been given the captaincy so he'll be in at 8 ... unle ss injured.

Shark ... Vermeulen has and never will be a openside flanker. Perhaps you had someone else in mind?

Whiteley is a nice little Super level player - he is not nearly physical enough for a test 8

Another Coetzee mistake appointing him as captain, Picamole will have him for breakfast

With De Allende out injured who other than Steyn to come in at 12?

By a long shot not my choice. I'd much rather have Serfontein in there.

Coetzee has an opportunity to play Steyn now and I think he'll take it ... with Kriel on the outside.

Fransie's ship has sailed. Might be a handy bench player to cover 10, 12, 13 and 15, but no starter. Sad to see so many years wasted. He should have been a Bok legend...not to be.

20 year old Frans had unbelievable talent, there was nothing he couldn't do, unfortunately he never really became what he should have been

@Cleancut, I meant Duane Vermeulen in that he competes for the ball on the ground better than any of our players including those playing 6. He is a ball carrier and fetcher.

I understand ... thing is though for a successful fetcher he needs to get to the breakdown point quickly and I don't know if Duane can haul ass as quickly as he used to.

He was awesome at one stage.

Vermeulen like Frans is past it - done very little in the past 2 seasons in France

Coetzee is too stupid to pick up on this - somehow he sees the return of Frans and Vermeulen as his salvation - big mistake........ironic in that he snubbed Vermeulen last season.........Coetzee is desperate
