 ...Wellington - Tour captain Sam Warburton has been relegated to the bench for the British and Irish Lions' clash against the Maori All Blacks on Saturday, just a week before the first Test.

Munster and Ireland's Peter O'Mahony will take over as captain for a match the tourists regard as an "unofficial fourth Test".

Warburton led the Lions to a disappointing 23-22 loss to the Highlanders midweek and coach Warren Gatland opted instead to hand flanker O'Mahony the skipper's armband.

"Peter is a proven captain with Munster," Gatland said ahead of the match in Rotorua.

"We're a week out from the first Test so Saturday's game against the Maori is huge for us, it's like an unofficial fourth Test match."

Leigh Halfpenny replaces the injured Stuart Hogg at fullback, while Liam Williams makes way for Anthony Watson on the wing.

However lock Wyn Jones, who captained against the Crusaders, did not even make the match-day 23, with Gatland preferring England's Maro Itoje in the second row backed by Iain Henderson on the bench.

Farrell kicked the Lions to victory against the Crusaders but may be paying the price for a late missed penalty against the Highlanders, when a frustrated Gatland said his men "shot ourselves in the foot".

 They can all trace their geneology back to the tribe next to their name...

"Pakeha" ... a derogatory term used for European New Zealanders ... or non Maori New Zealanders. I had to google that. Very interesting, Lara. Talk about a complex people.

So when you say that "the Pakeha put pay to that " ... does that mean that they killed the Maori off ... or bred with them and diluted the blood line so only mixed blood Maori are left?

Either way that's very sad. I'd be pi$$ed at the "Pakeha". I'd be tempted to restore the age old tradition of using them as a meat source. What's the term for that?

Sounds as though you guys as a people had some issues of your own to deal with ... forgiveness and such.

I've read up on him now. You have the bloodline of a great Chief coursing through your veins. A warrior second to none amongst the Maori people. That's far better than the rabble I come from.

 Enough quackery oaks let's just cut to the chase shall we. The fact is the nz Maori are not able to field a competent side to face the Lions. Hence if it is supposed that any player has a mere drop of Maori blood in him he is a Maori!!!This whole exercise is to slip in a "4th test" and do as much damage physically to the Lions, especially key players, as possible. So expect late tackles, tackles in the air, high tackles etc and a mean spirited game.

 Maori ABs have a quality side this year. Remember in 2005 when Carlos Spencer played in the Maori side that beat the Lions, that was sweet. The Maoris should kick ass this year. A few should make the All Blacks as well. 

The Maori bloodline has produced a great many excellent rugby players over the years and always respected their game.
I had the pleasure of meeting two greats when I was in NZ a few years ago and they were and are both great sportsmen and gentlemen to the core.
In years past the Maori and Springbok game was always regarded as an unofficial "TEST" by all.
Wonder if anyone has the stats on how many Maori players have been capped for the NZ All Blacks and the %.
