I'd have Jaque Fourie in there. Saved a number of tests. Always made a telling contribution somewhere. This is a very difficult list to make. Juan Smith and John Smit are other possibilities. Some might have Os, Skinstad, Pienaar, Honiball, Percy et al.

I'd change Pollard for Butch, who in my opinion is our most talented 10 that I have seen and Andre for Fourie. The rest I'd keep.

Duane should have got the POTY when Retallick won it, no one can change my mind.
Wait until Pollard has finished his career to include him, the other major disagreement is the placement of Beast and Fourie, I'd swap them. The rest are minor changes but quite a fair list.

1. Henry Honiball

2. Andre Venter

3. Andre Joubert

I will admit to having a bias for that 1998 Springbok team.

I would not put Victor Matfield on top of that list since he damaged his reputation badly by playing past his sell-by date.  Much lower on the list because if that.  For what it is worth I agree with most of the others - more like no 10 on the list or even out of the top 10 .  One should rather have a 15 man squad not allowing for duplication of eg the scrummie position.

Bob Skinstad was good for a while, but after his car knee injury he was not as good. Certainly a game breaker that could turn a match on its head.

Really hard choices here chaps.

Pieter Rossouw and Andre Joubert would definately be up there and Stefan Terblanche was always my favourite Shark.

Dave what about Puke, Elton and Jacobs.

Monty is the only addition I would suggest.

But you have some surprise names one being  F Steyn (never thought that he would be considered).

But otherwise pretty good selection.

Saffex, I do not often agree with your lists. Sometimes maybe hardly at all but in the main I mostly agree with this one bar a few here and there. At FB, I would swap Willie for Percy mainly because of Willie’s inconsistency and Percy’s versatility. At centre I would drop Mulder and Fleck for Hennie le Roux and Jacque Fourie. Props would have to loose Ollie and maybe CJ as well and I would want Balie in the mix. I was not a big fan of Rassie as a player mainly because he also used to be hanging around in the back line a bit too much. Especially at a time when the loosies were a bit more confined among the rest of the forwards. I was also no big fan of Francois Pienaar. Maybe it was a bit of bias. I don’t know. I just didn’t like him. Still don’t.

Flash at least you got some of the selection correct.

Honiball, Andrews and Venter.

Four ex Sharks and you complain about my selection then you select three ex Sharks in your reserve selection plus the Beast.

Just goes to show that you also support the Sharks.....welcome aboard.

Vlag, I have Fourie at centre I preferred Hennie at 10 than centre I was not a huge fan of Balie he was a bit weak in the scrums I much prefer Willie to Percy. I think my impression of Percy is clouded by his later years where all he was really good for was kicking for poles. He was a good player. I like ball playing loosies - hence Rassie and Skinstad

Joist is the Brett Favre of rugby. Not tu e most technically accomplished player but has a knack for making it work. He is my second choice at #9. I have an official SA Rugby magazine for the 1999 World Cup, in it several coaches and players speak about Joost. I can't recall who said it, but one said they'd take a 60% fit Joost over anyone else, because even then he'll make things happen. I'll try to have that magazine scanned sometime.
