Braam was way not on  the worst list.....his try against the Poms was well taken and he hardly ever missed a kick.

In no particular order:

1 Deon Greyling .

2 Luke Watson

3 Jorrie Muller

4 Flexing Faan Rautenbach

5 Selborne Boome

6 Dewald Potgieter

7 Bandise Maku

8 JJ Englebrect

9 Jaco Taute.

10 Corne Krige

Braam had the physical ability but was completely devoid of any thinking ability other than tackling and kicking for poles.

The worst Bok combination ever was Louis Koen and Braam Van Straaten in the 10-12 access for the Boks. Stupid Braam kept running into Louis Koen in the flyhalf position instead of going to inside centre. There were 2 players competing for the same spot on the field. Absolutely pathetic.

Jorrie Muller was another that had all the physicalities required of a modern-day centre but was an empty vessel. A 5-year-old would be better than him in strategy or even rock, paper and scissors, making a paper aeroplane etc, etc.

Krige and Watson were big disappointments at test level as players. But they are on the list because they dishonored the jersey....unlike our current Boks, who have behaved magnificently.

JJ and Taute weren't great, but they are mostly there to pull your leg Dave .

Looking at the Braam try, it was one in a million. He took the most predictable option. The English backs did not think he would be that stupid, and assumed he would pass. He basically jogged in running a straight line. 99/100 that would not work, and a routine tackle would have taken him down.

Ten Worst Boks

For the worst Boks, I am sticking to players I have verified through film review. Some of the older tests have players I suspect may candidates, but I'll omit them. I'll be basing my decisions on players with little production, with significant weight given to those with a history of contributing to losses.

  1. Raymond Rhule: He simply could not defend, at all. He missed a staggering 28 tackles in six tests, which included an unforgivable 9 against New Zealand - those which were deemed successful too often lacked quality. For those who say the stats are not enough, trust me, the film review is worse than the stats sheet.
  2. Deon Kayser: Simply anonymous. I have very few clear recollections of his provincial rugby, but I reviewed the 1999 season. He was well out of his depth throughout.
  3. Wayne Julies: It began in 1999 against Spain, overwhelmed, it ended in like manner against Tonga in 2007. Was another well out of his depth at test level.
  4. Brian Mujati: A penalty machine throughout 2008. Such a shame, as Beast was excellent upon debut. Compounded a rather difficult season for the Boks. Very low production outside of the scrum.
  5. Juandré Kruger: Very poor hands in both the lineout and restarts. Very low production. Continually put the Boks on the backfoot. One of the chief culprits for problems up front in those early tests of 2012. Lacked any physical presence.
  6. Marcel Coetzee: Simply out-gunned from start to finish. Much was made of his impressive defence stats in 2012's super rugby, but this never materialised on debut. With a glut of injuries at flank, he was called on again in 2014 to fill the void, a perfect opportunity to have a run of games to cement his status. He failed. He failed again in 2015 against Los Pumas. Not strong or robust enough for the backrow.
  7. Damian De Allende: I have covered few players as extensively as I have Damian. I played 12, am very fussy about the position. At no point has he demonstrated an aptitude for the position, costing the Boks several games and stunting the team both on defence and attack. His redeeming quality has been his work at the breakdown, not counter-rucking, but securing opportunistic steals. Was the worst defender in 2015's super rugby season with the most missed tackles. Considering his reputation, he not only becomes a candidate for worst 10, but one of the most overrated players in rugby history. Has had very tangible, negative influences in every game. Lacks fundamentals, sense of space or pressure, poor distribution, poor running lines and can't sum up situations. Coach Belichick talks about situational football, he emphasises it, and Damian fails situational rugby.
  8. Patrick Lambie: Were we discussing Lambie the fullback, he'd not be on this list. Lambie the fullback was a very viable option and my call for the semi-final against die Schwarzewelle in 2015. Lambie the fly-half was simply putrid. Very weak, timid defence in every single test I have reviewed. The numbers aren't spectacular, but watching the film makes it so much worse. Numbers don't capture just how poor he was. Hospital passes, missed tackles, dragged back by metres, run over, weak floaty passes, crabbing, pop-gun boot, poor depth and alignment, slow play which allowed the defensive line to advance upon our backs easily... he consistently robbed the Boks of any attacking impetus. Another with a very impressive reputation he could never live up to.
  9. Corne Krige: Very popular amongst some supporters. I found him massively overrated at the time of Straeuli. Not only was he not talented enough to be a Bok, his extraordinarily poor leadership tarnished the Bok brand in a way no man had done before. It took many years to win back respect and the favour of referees. He ended his test career in a rather limp showing against New Zealand in the 2003 quarter-final, which essentially summed up his captaincy and ability. Who could forget that famous quote: "Kill you in Perth". It was Krige who was killed, never to don the green and gold again.
  10. Adi Jacobs: An exceedingly poor defender who almost cost us the opening British Lions test. There was no redeeming quality to his game. Slow off the mark, slow in general and with an awkward throwing motion which squeezed a weak pass out like a bar of soap. He tried, he always put his body on the line, but was simply not good enough. The stats don't quite capture how bad he truly was.
Notable mentions: Jorrie Muller, Eddie Andrews, Siya Kolisi, Sikhumbuszo Notshe, Lwazi Mvovo, Dave von Hoesselin, Johann Goosen.

AO

There never was a more worthless flyhalf than Morne from any possible angle.  He was a good kicker of balls at goal - his strategic out-of-hand kicking was atrocious, his defense virtually absent and attacking play non-existent.  Patrick Lambie was a genius compared t him at flyhalf play.

Your hatred and obsession with De Allende is a serious joke.

Morné was an excellent defender, had the best distribution of any Bok 10 in the last decade, could read the game very well and controlled it. Elton is inferior, Lambie is inferior, Boshoff is inferior, Willemse is inferior, and even Pollard is inferior in many respects. His worst game literally saw more positives than Lambie's best. If only we had a distributor like him now. Seemingly none of our halfbacks possess the long dart.

Kinda like the Allende try vs Wales. These tries are remarkably similar....confusion about the possible pass.....and late efforts to prevent crossing the line. Except Braam's was better.

Saffy, you are hardly one to talk. You are the rugby equivalent of Death Note. The killer of careers!

@Moz: Yes they are remarkably similar. Another was the Lambie try against Australia. I have to agree, Braam's was better.

Some interesting choices above. When reviewing film, I can find positives to Elton, Mohoje and Taute. Elton has had his moments, but falls into the Pretorius category, a poor man's Pretorius. Mohoje bested McCaw in our last home win against them, also proved to be one of the top three defenders under Coetzee. Nothing exceptional, but serviceable. Taute ran fantastic lines in 2012, all of which Goosen missed! Running into the blindspot of Nonu for a certain try, Goosen threw a hospital pass. Coming in off the shoulder for another deadly run, Goosen throws a hospital pass to Kirchner. Then when Goosen does see Taute, it's in the face of a deep three man rush, and Taute was smashed hard. Was guilty of a few feeble tackles, but was hardly the worst defender. In many respects a scapegoat for the likes of Goosen. In light of JJ and Kriel, I feel sorry for Taute. It's funny how some players never get called out, yet some nailed. Three flawed players, yet I find more redeeming qualities than those I listed.

Upon review, I'd actually drop Marcel for Notshe. The hype leaves me inclined to elevate Marcel, but Notshe was much worse now that I think about it.

@Blobbok: There was the Stormers fullback Newman in 2009. Said he was born in form, all ready for thr British Lions. Then came Namibia and we nearly lost. Newman wasn't in such great form that day. Peter was a good laugh, one I'd have found amusing were he coaching someone else.

Who remembers Ishmael Dolli? Peter had hopes of him becoming a Bok. The Aussies had heard so much praise about him, and the Brumbies took a chance and nabbed him. It was discovered that he didn't possess the skills and was embarrassingly discarded.

No - not the better player only dimwit.    You claimed that he was better than McCaw and as per normal lied as well - Mohoje was i n NO tests better than McCaw ever,  However - the idiot will always try to spin him out of the BS he constantly lands himself in.

Now where is the final statemen about Morne Steyn being a better player than Carter?  That ill also pop out in a moment of unguarded idiocy.   He denied the Folau attack after it was repeated in site when in his stupidity he referred to it under his new user name and blew his cover wide open    Now he was stupid enough to bring up the Mohoje idiocy

Only the Dan Carter story is not in the open yet - so wait a bit longer - he is bound to let that idiotic streak out too,

Wonder where Rooinek is - he unearthed the Mohoje and Morne Steyn idiocies and brought them into the open.  The Folau I happened to remember and when the idiot repeated it - I blew hios cover of a new user name and I wrote about it.   Now th bugger did what he previously wrote about Mohoje being better than McCaw,

Difficult to live a life of duplicity and total rugby ignorance on site.  Anybody coming out with he following is a total site disaster because he lied in the statement as well:-

"Morné was an excellent defender, had the best distribution of any Bok 10 in the last decade, could read the game very well and controlled it,".  LMAO - Morne had none of the qualities the idiot described and everybody bar him knows it.   LMAO       .

Ou Maaik, I remember Omlett saying Zane Kirchner was better than Israel Folau, Morne Steyn was better than Dan Carter, Oupa Mohoje was better than Richie McCaw and anyone is better than his most hated nemesis, Pat Lambie.
Over the years we've had several posters having a strong dislike against certain players . . . Moffie against Pieter-Steph du Toit, Dave against Franco Mostert, you against Willem Alberts (and others) , me against Willie le Roux . . . but nothing, and I mean nothing compares to Omlett's unbridled and passionate hatred for Pat Lambie. That is one very scary obsession Omlett has with Pat Lambie.

Oh dear, poor Dreck desperately backed into a corner. What was that? The original discussion on Folau didn't reap the rewards you had hoped? What a surprise!

What next? Carter? Pakie himself resurrected the thread where HE spoke about Morné in relation to Carter. Your marbles are amiss and you made a goof. How could I rate Morné the best 10 of all time if he isn't even my #1 Bok 10? Such logic from the clown who TWICE claimed Esterhuizen lost the test we won is Brisbane, South Africa.

I dare you Lügnerin to resurrect these supposed quotes. Go fetch. I already debunked the Folau lie. Pakie debunked the Carter lie. Now, your very last strike. You up for it?

What next for the dynamic duo? Join us next week for another calamitous episode of Pip 'N Squeal.

PS: Who was it that was going to be a 100 cap Bok captain? Notshe? Here's the unfortunate truth, I have that thread right now, I can quote your very words!
