Jannie du Plessis
Jannie this year showed that he indeed is too old for the game and that he should go and start his medical practise asap. He is the one player that has been widely erratic in scrumming - some times adequate and some times far from being so.
His defense is a joke - a very bad one, but still a joke. He is not up to standard as a ball carrier. And then he gives away penalties and utterly devastatig ones as well, And then Jannie runs out of steam after 30 minutes - thereafter he s more of a liability than an asset.
Mozart's national treasure is just not good enough anymore. Accoring to Mozart there is no alterative - but there are plenty. Mozart's problem with the alternatives are all in his mind - sad to say. His bias is a joke in bad tatse.
Victor Matfield
Victor was a good lock years ago - he is anything but at present. A 106 kgs lock is not acceptable anymore. Most people may not have noticed it - but there was a Springbok maul today and they were doing quite well util Matfield was like a rag doll chucked out of the maul.
Aother problem is that Matfield runs out of steam quite erly in games. Today the commentators remarked about the Springboks running out of steam early and there was nobody more out of steam thean Matfield. One wonders why Matfield fluff line outs late in the game - the answer is simple - he is completely out of steam.
Fact is he fluffed a lie outminutes before the end of the Wellington test. That line out was set up to start a rolling maul - but Matfield's poor effort put pay to that one. Then we have the case today - where he AB's won a line out on Springbok throw-in. My dear friend Mozart said Matfield went high and the throw-in was too low - the fact is Matfield's jump was too low and the AB's jumper was just high enough.
Lets give Matfield due credit - he still is a good line out jumpr - but he is showing all the signs that he should retire. He is physically-deficient and his repalcement wold have massive beenfits in Tight 5 play. His tackling is consistent - but rather average tpoo poor in quality.
Bakkies Botha
Bakkies made his Springbok comeback in the Scottish test last year. He was not up to standard in that test and has been below par in every test he played in since then. He is by far the least productive lock on international level.
There can be no logical reason for his retention in the squad - he really is totally non-productive. His main prooblem is the steam goes out after 10 minutes on the field of play.
Gurthro Steenkamp
Although not playing - he is still in the squad and the question relly is why. Maybe it is the size of his girth that counts here - must be since he is not an good as a player anymore.
Maybe Toulouse would elevate him from the bench - but the sooner he is out the better it would be for the Springboks.
Conclusion
Morne Steyn is out - but further house-cleaning is essnetial. The myt that there are no players good enough to eplace the above -is what I called it, is a myth concocted in twisted and prejudiced minds. .
Mozart's beloved geriatrics is just not goiod anough anymore so what will he gets afllicted with next?
