It was around the 60-65th minute of the match, and the Boks had taken the upper hand. A bok try had just been disallowed, but the Boks were picking up more and more confidence and about to close the match off as any form of a contest, after the French had dominated the 1st half.
Enter Delande... It was a basic up and under catch without any pressure, but he folded and let it bounce. The French won possession, and for the first time in the half started to gain ground and suddenly the Boks lost momentum. It is critical moments like this that matches are won and lost....The Boks had the French by the jugular, but this simplistic play allowed them back into the game.
I am not sure what position on the field would be most suited to Delande because while he has lots of strengths, he also has lots of weaknesses that get exposed at international level.
Maybe a wing, but he would probably be poor under the high ball- as demonstrated today.Perhaps a blindside flank where he could crash ball and carry the ball up, and be less of a defensive liability. It does to some degree be part of the parcel with modern-day rugby, the inside centre is a brute due to the front on tackling requirements, and carry possession into traffic. Lots of brutes are in this position nowadays, it is just a question if one can be found that has basic skills, along with the physical requirements.

He also probably stands too upright when taking contact, and gets stripped of the ball frequently. The Boks seriously need a quality all round inside center, and Carthuizen is not the answer either

I never thought I'd say this but I like Jantjies coming off the bench , bring in Serfontein as he's an astute player and not unfamiliar with Pollard and Kriel.

Scarcely credible that 5years later we are still discussing what he needs to do. This guy is in the best years of a centre's career. Can't change....won't change.
