The 30 years old older players needed adn not needed anymore

Zane Krichner, Jaqque Fourie, Morne Steyn, Ruan Pienaar, Willem Alberts, Victor Matfield, Bakkies Botha, Gurthro Stenkamp,  

Summary

Of the above players to be retained most if not all should eb in the starting line up in the RC.   In the case of Fourie du Preez there need to be cover though - he is not going to last much longer so a younger player (please not Hougaard) needs to be brought into the system.   Habana, De Villiers and Burger was injury-prone this year and needs to be managed well.  Be it as it may there are adequae cover by younger players if the mentioned players get injured.

Of the players not needed anymore there are a number of better younger player available to take their places.   

*    Zane Kirchner can be replaced by players like Lambie and Boshoff

*   Jaque Fourie - although food in defence - shos nothinh in attack and has a serious speed deficiency.  Although we are thin on the ground here - there is cover here in the form of De Allende or even De Billiers

*   Morne Steyn was always a dubious flyhalf on international level - he is robotic and has no ball sense.  Both Pollard and Goosen are better than he is.

*   We need to start prparing for a replacement of Du Preez and Pienaar is not teh answer.

*   Willem Alberts is too limited a loosie and is a low work rate player - there are better 7's around.

*   Vixtor Matield is way past hi best amd his contribution  is limited to line outs - not physicallys trong enough to compete aon international level.

*   Bakkies Botha - plays for 15 minutes and vanish from the scene - not good enough anmymore

*   Gurthro Steenkamp - normally a penalty donating player assisting the opposition - his scrumming is not consistent and he is not really a key player.

Here is another oldie for you to consider:

Juan Smith

He had an outstanding european season and I would select him anyday ahead of Schalk Burger.

Schalk contributes nothing in the scrum and that is why his prop (mostly Coenie) struggles. I remember in the days of John Smit when PDivvie transformed him into a tighthead prop, John each time insisted that Juan must be his flank in the scrum. That combo made John a reasonable tighthead, but when John was back at the Sharks, he failed miserably, again proving the vale of Juan Smith.

The only other flank/eightman who could give this type of support to his tighthead prop is Philip van der Walt at the Cheetahs who turned WP Nel into a reasonable tighthead after all indications showing WP Nel is rather useless.
