With Jasper the Reff was right there and it was made worse by the Italian player acting very well.

Rugby is a physical game between men, physical intimidation is part of the package. Red carding these little love rubs is patently ridiculous and a complete failure of judgement among the officials. Plus it encourages the prima donna actors like the Italian who got a massive result out of his overacted appeal.

And therein lies the rub - it has a huge impact on the game, and that's why a light touch of foreheads can never be justified as a reason to hand one out. The idea is to make the game safer. Harmless stupidity is just that - harmless.
