Here is an article on Schalk Brits who says he has lost 11kg since the WC and now weighs 103kg and wants to get down to 90kg.
It just goes to show how outdated profile stats are as Schalk is usually listed at 100kg sometimes less. But it would seem 114kg was his WC weight which is an eye opener
The biggest joke out there is Etzebeth is often still listed at 117kg........
RugbyRocks.com’s SAVANNAH CONNACHER catches up with Schalk Brits to find out how life after rugby is treating him.
The last time RugbyRocks.com spoke with you, you’d just finished your first day at Remgro, an investment holding company in Stellenbosch. How’s it going?
It’s going great. I’m totally out of my depth but I’m loving being challenged in a completely different way.
The new job has given me the opportunity to grow and understand business more. Then hopefully, going forward, I can add value to the company.
I studied accountancy at Stellenbosch so I’m going to be focusing on venture capital, private equity and corporate finance.
I’m working eight to five, but of course if things need to be done you have to finish them regardless of working hours.
It hasn’t been too hectic yet, but I can see the pace picking up soon!’
Do you miss playing rugby?
Of course, rugby has given me so much, it is an unbelievable profession.
From a physical perspective, it’s quite strange … I have lost 11kg since the World Cup, because I no longer have to constantly eat to keep the weight or go to the gym four to five times a week.
It is nice to be able to go for runs with my wife and not have to push myself!
I’m also keen to start mountain biking but being 103kg doesn’t help. I’m hoping to get down to 90!
Are you still involved in rugby?
I still watch rugby with the family and do public speaking about my experience at the World Cup.
I also went to Super Hero Sunday and I’ll definitely be at the Super Rugby final, while I played at the Cape Town 10s and went to the Laureus Awards in Berlin.
My focus, though, is on making a success of my new journey.
