When I coined this name a few years back, there were many who admired Kirchner. Not so much anymore. Myself never.

But what did they see I ask myself, and what does Meyer see today? InZane, so aptly named at birth, just waiting for the simple prefix, is unable to accurately put foot to the ball. Half the time it woer-woers  off in the wrong wrong direction or sails directly into touch from the up and under.

Nor can this strong man buy a tackle....he always gets himself nicely in place and then mistimes the whole thing or gets stepped....in a whirling dervish kind of way.

He does join the line quite often but hardly reads the opportunity well. I suppose the high ball is his best suit. In every other way Gio Aplon is miles better. What a frustration it must be for Aplon as he makes brilliant open field tackles around the ankles to see this clumsy player preferred.

I would prefer Jake, but I generally support Meyer. He made some solid moves last year putting Lambie at 10 and bringing in Louw. But the Woolie Bully again....he can't be serious!

It was one of the limited Bulls selection that was not a total failure in 2012.

Sideshow Bob played above his potential, got some tries, was good under the high ball.

his biggest failure was going to ground and not passing to his outside wing when tries were on.

He killed many of the best backline attack moves.

However Aplon would have been much better on attack.

-

the 2 Bulls locks- Kruger and Flip van dermerve were decent.

-

Werner Kruger was useless, as was the other idiot prop whos name escapes me- Greyling- that;s it

Mozart

Stats are not always a good thing to use to evaluate full backs, but over a period of time it does paint a picture and I consequently took a long at the stats of Kirchner in Super 15 and they are as follow for all games played this year in Super 15:-

Kirchner 0/0 0 3/2/5 36 0 0 0 1 2/2 1/0 1 0/0 Kirchner 0/0 0 5/4/9 95 0 0 0 2 1/1 0/0 0 0/0   Kirchner 0/2 0 2/3/6 42 0 0 0 0 2/2 0/0 0 0/0 Kirchner 0/0 0 3/3/10 89 0 1 0 3 0/1 2/0 0 0/0

The problem is that often enough the meters gained per carrt gives a falsi picture of effectiveness.   Tull backs often catch balls way back and start running a fairly long distance before kicking the ball or getting tackled.  I am more concerned with defensive stats and it is here where Kirchner is shockingly ineffective.   Tackles missed virtually assure the opposing teams would score tries.

Kichner had in the first four games in Super 15 the following stats:

No of required tackles     =   11

  Successful tackles          =     5

  Missed tackles                 =     6

He must surely be the worst full back in that regard

Kirchners positional play under the high ball on defence is good.

However everything else on defence is terribale. He is a poor tackler, and his positional play on multi-phase play or counter attacks by the opposition it typically pathetic.
