The ANC have just purchased a $400 million Boeing 747-8, the most expensive aircraft available, which apparently makes anything in the US fleet look pedestrian. US aid to RSA of $570 million fortunately pays for it.....other causes will have to wait.

Where are the voices of protest.....how many poor people could have been fed by the  excess cost over a reasonable aircraft for government purposes. Nobody expects the  senior government officials to fly SAA.....but this is sad at a time the economy is struggling.

21 squadron is the taxi service for the Gov VVIP’s. The HS’s, Falcon 50’s and 900 did the job for the previous lot.

The cANCer decided that these executive jets were not what the leaders of a super power nation ‘government’ should be seen in so a VIP BBJ was added to the fleet.

I guess with so many wives & girlfriends there is a requirement for a lot of showers…. So a not so extravagant dip into public funds to secure the largest and latest 747 available is on the cards.

As an aside

Zuma has refused to fly in the BBJ (Inkwazi) reportedly due to a host of technical issues.

This aircraft is serviced for some reason in Switzerland not at SAA Technical. A/C are now charted for his flights. I think the UN trip cost about R6 million.

Moz, do you have a source for your info? There were some rumours of such a deal a few months back, but the treasury and the reserve bank must OK such big deals (I think) and we heard nothing on this side of the Atlantic. Sparks will fly if this is true. And just as the Rand was building up some steam.
