Pierre has always been a back rather than a forward. I propose an IMMEDIATE switch to inside center. The guy is the same size as sbw. He is at least as fast, has an ability to beat a defender and will be very dangerous at 12.

Spies doesn't have the essential level of attributes which is required at 12 such as vision, the abilty to offload during a tackle, creating space to open gaps for the outside centre, therefore he shouldn't be considered making a transition to inside centre. Spies at 12 would be a disaster, however there is certain aspects which he would be well suited on the wing more than anywhere else in the backline. I see what you mean though, Spies would be dangerous in open space.

Spies has been one of the form 8's of the S15 and was one of the few Bulls forwards who at best could be described as solid today.
You need flair, creativity and great hands and touch to play 12 - no to mention the ability to read the play, react quickly and marshall the outside backs - Spies has none of this, he does not have the rugby nous of a back, not even close.
The only attributes Spies has for a 12 is strength and speed and thats where it ends. Spies would be a disaster at 12

Really disappointing - I point out that your hero Steyn has none of the attributes you described as required from a 12 - and you come back with no real response. To answer you clearly and precisely. Steyn is so slow he cannot play at center. You make an excellent suggestion - he may become a reasonable loosie - but is most likely too slow for that as well.
Like the way Spies is playing this year, its like he's discovered his rugby "'hunger" again. I always think of him as the anti Lomu...a back who became a forward. He reminds of Zinzan Brooke not your traditional no 8, but has skills of both forwards and a back matched by mass & pace, sometimes I wonder whether this was coached out of him or there was a lack of confidence which saw a decline in form. Whatever miss the Spies of old...maybe, maybe this is his year.

Spies was a passenger at RWC11....no passion, robotic. With the time off he has probably decided it's more fun to be a Bok. But that doesn't mean he wont totally disappear in the tests. What he does well, running through open field might be possible once in every ten tests. The rest of the time he is just bashed about by more physical loosies.
Nor is he a back. Go back and watch how Dagg totally bamboozled him a few years back. He not agile enough for a back...and doesn't think like a back.

The issue is simple - one of us is stupid. I guess if Steyn is still on the field of play after 60 minutes today I am the stupid one. If not - well guess what then. If he buggers up again like in all rounds thus far this year - it may be his last start for the Sharks today.
I guess that the latter is going to be the case and am going to watch him carefully today and note down excatly what he has done. Hope it turns out he is better than I expect - but that may also be a mirage - like the one you believe in all the time about that one.
