The Art of the Long Dart

It's been alarming to me how our teams struggle to pass any further than the second man out. I ask, do we have one back who is an assured long range passer? Is it for a lack of power or technique? Some players strain and end up floating the ball forward. Where are the long darts the likes of which Du Preez, Morné et al used to throw with pinpoint accuracy? There were a few forward passes that went uncalled in the Stormer's game,much like every other week, calls which I see made against the Boks. Look no further than the 2nd Puma test, the Boks had three tries washed away by errant long range passing. We are missing a lot of opportunities because of this one flaw.

It is easy to take an opposite view to the fairy tales you write on site and give the real situation by being factual.   LMAO.

As to your wh ole saga - it is based on one pass made by Du Plessis and that is what makes it so laughable.    That while Morne since 2012 on test and Super Rugby level made hundreds of flawed passes.

He sees my thread and enters with the intent to get personal. He had never opened a post in one of my threads which was any different. 

I don't mind that much, so long as some kind of discussion takes place. I have a good laugh at most of his antics. It does retard the quality of the forum in general though. I think he should have the presence of mind to find a balance. 

Morné had a long and accurate pass off both hands. With a 9 like Du Preez, we could effectively beat defenders by flight of the ball. What we saw under Rassie last year were chains of short passes to clunky mini-units which were deep lying and slow developing. Under Meyer it was flatter, quicker developing and wider. Morné was a significant part of that. The long passing of the halfbacks have been poor. Even Jantjies has struggled on occasion and he is supposed to be our Quade Cooper/Carlos Spencer. None of the 9s - including Faf - have a good long pass. So essentially, they are most effective passing to forwards at short distance. This limits our options, and it i s observable in every game. 

That's a complete, coming from you. He wasn't a frantic runner. Saffers love an excited headless chicken. He was a distributor, and a very good one.

Dave is right - Morne was a backline saboteur at best,   He could kick at goal accurately with an 80% success rate,   His out of hand kicking was accurately described by NZ commentators as  BULLSHIT and was mostly aimless and to the disadvantage of his team.   ,  

And he was too scared to attack the gain line and just slightly better as a tackler than Slade.

Didn't you say the outstanding attacking game of the 2013 Boks was a moral defeat because Morné played? I know Lügnerin said that, I could have have sworn I saw an old post in which you agreed.

Too biased. I can reference instances of Morné's great passing game. Something which wasn't valued by Saffers who gushed over the frantic running of the likes of Goosen. Yes, runners who die with the ball. Predictability. Other sides who seek a more modern approach load their teams with passers. That's why the current Bok model is the most archaic in top tier rugby. 

Thus from the same guy who has shown constantly that what he had seen in games are always dreamed up BS.    

Yes the liar as been exposed at writing BS about modern effective backline play by the Springboks under Meyer,   First of all Meyer himself dealt with the issue clearly and Mornes style of play was equally analyzed on a rational basis.   Nothing described by Silly Billy ever happened as to Morne's performance at flyhalf.  

Let me remind the dud once more - before the October 2013 test against the All Blacks Meyer said publicly - reported in the media - that he instructed the players to play a ball-in-hand game.  That made Morne loosing the plot totally.   As is evidenced by Merssam's  second try Morne  did not know when to kick and when to pass balls,    So instead of making a relieving kick that would have ended the first half Morne passed the ball in a lunatic situation.   That was the one and only time Meyer veered from his game plan as to backline play and he never allowed it to happen afterwards,

Talking about bias all the stuff you write on site is in fact biased BS - end of story,
