I think that was the best game of rugby ever, at least that I have ever watched.

Australia vs All Blacks around 2001 with the golden era of Wallabies must rank closely with todays game.

Both teams perhaps at times could have defended better,

but the end to end attack from one side of the field to the other was non stop.

Counter attacks running the whole length of the field, only for another turn over to the other end of the field

If not the best game ever, surely it must rank as the most high tempo test match ever.

Maybe watch it again tomorrow.

Totally agree shark, best game I've seen for nearly ten years. Last one was in my opinion for the AB was semi final against Wallabies. But still this test was still better. Two BEST teams in the world. Long May it continue. Again reinforced my belief that SA is still the biggest rival to the AB. Can't see any team beating the BOKs any time soon if they continue on the road there on. SA forwards are inspirational for all the world. To respect and learn. Congratulations BEAST. Should be proud of his career.

what a Test Match. Funniest sight was the Aussie Fox Commentary Team of Marto, Kearns and forgot his name trying to stay awake for the Wallabies vs Argy game after staying up all night to watch the ABs vs Boks Test  and trying their best to sound excited for the Wallabies beating the Argies.

its right up there, but IMO the best game ever played is still the 2000 bleidsloe cup test match in ANZ stadium in front of 109,874 fans.
it was the most watched event at ANZ outside of the olympics.

1) olympics closing ceremony - 114,714
2) olympics athletics - 112,524
3) All Blacks vs wallabies - 109,874
4) 1999 NRL grandfinal storm vs st george - 107,999
5) olympics soccer final spain vs cameroon - 104,098
6) 1999 state of origin NSW vs QLD - 88,336

1st 5 minutes, All Blacks score 3 tries and are leading 21-0

9 mins All Blacks are leading 24-0,,,,then the wallabies strike back

31 mins, wallabies clawed themselves back to make it 24 all and 109,874 fans have been treated to 7 trys.

47 mins wallabies lead 27-24

48th minute All Blacks are leading 31-27

65th minute two penalties to mehrtens and mortlock makes the score 34-30

73rd minute wallabies score a try and are leading 35-34

80 minute lomu scores a try to seal the game and give the All Blacks a 39-34 victory

easily the best game ever IMO and of all All Black games in years gone by, its the one that always stick out to me the most.

Sasu I agree with you but the only thing that made that Test suck was the Wobblies still retained the Bledisloe after the winning the next Test after that.

@hakwa,

the conciliation is that was in an era where it was the best wallabies team ever and the best they could do was go one for one in a time where there were only two beldisloes per year. i mean excluding 98, 99-02 was only 2 tests per year and the wallabies only once won two test in a year for one of them in 01.

fast forward to now and my oh my how the tides have changed, we have started sending players away who have never held a bledisloe like giteau and drew mitchell and we know there are going to be plenty more,

Best game of rugby ever was the French victory over a superior AB team in the RWC99. I was at Twickenham.....the vibe was incredible . First Jonah was unstoppable carrying the whole French pack over the line. Then France was unstoppable with incredible direct strikes from deep in their half. Huge occasion, brilliant match.

@mozter,

i know ur a senior and that u have seen some games in ur lifetime, but the greatest game u have ever seen isnt at least a Boks test??? o_O

but that french games was a cracker, its also been the core basis of the so called french weakness the All blacks have, a myth i dont and have never bought into.

best test ever? for good striking and good defending? hard to say the bledisloe test in 2001 we gave away pretty soft tries before coming back into that game. we should have won it! so pretty frustrating but it was really intense.

It was one of the most exciting games I've seen. But the best game would have to involve tackling, and good defensive play.

If the Boks and Meyer think they can beat the Kiwis playing like that, then they will never beat the kiwis. Boks played right into their hands. A few of those All Black tries were walked across the line with ease. Barretts try was a disgrace to the word defence.

both defences sucked but the all blacks had the better territory so those bok breaks didnt hurt as bad as it could have. a few of those all blacks were literally walked over. holy shit morne steyn ran though their lock for god sake! so yeah it had no structure and the boks lacked the field position and that lost it.

Daggs boot was huge. Don't have the numbers, but he kicked for a ton of metres. All blacks have a fantastic kicking game.

Just looked at the tackling numbers for SA. Yikes!! That is atrocious!

This poor tackling is right out of character. Need to keep defence going while improving attacking ability. Get in Nieaber the best defence coach in worl d rugby. Fixed.

Well Sasu my second favorite is the Boks beating the ABs at Ellis Park in 1960... Two brilliant tries by Hennie van Zyl after Mike Antelme cut in from the blindside wing.....and yep, I was there.

Most exciting game of rugby ever was a super rugby game. Sharks vs Reds. 24 April 2004 in Durban. High scoring match that was eventually won by the Reds.

We have had some great game during the history of the game.
My big regret is that I missed so much between 1972 and 1995. I moved to the US in 1972 and had no access to rugby.
Believe it or not the first game I saw coming out of this darkness was the 1995 RWC semi final AB V Poms. That was one hell of a game to see after that drought, lol The of course we know what happened in the final. Man was I shocked.
