There are basically three reasons why it is important that  the Blitzbokke must win the Commonwealth Games Sevens  competition.   Those are –

*    the Fact they are the defending champions;

*   they sent the Academy side to play in the Hong Kong  Sevens amd even though the youngsters did very well in the competition they must reward all of us by doing  better than the Bronze medal won   by the Academy kids.

*    they can take SA to third on the medal table

Insofar as the Hong Kong Sevens is concerned there are two players who showed  signs of being top class in future – Gans and the 17 year-old  Miller du Plessis.   Those two guys scored  the same number of tries and was jointly in number 1  position on the try-scoring list.

Insofar as the gold medal position is concerned the situation is that India (11 golds) are in the number 3 and  SA  (10  golds) and there are still  three possible gold medals in the  -

*    800 meter females   - absolute certainty that Casper will win;

*    200 meter men -  where there are  two SA athletes in the final;  and

*    the  Commonwealth Sevens

So lets hope for the best.

Crusaderfan, your baiting is too obvious man. Up your game! Also, the Blitzboks are the reigning Champions, so they have that trophy in the cabinet until the end of the tournament. Probably best to check your facts eh?

Mike, I believe Powell has reached a dead end with his current squad, they've been great but now it's time for change. Fortunately there's some slick talent coming through but I agree with you, the guys who are playing the 15 man code should return to 7's.
