So, the championship is over and a few journalist are still blowing their horns that the boks have finally arrived. One can't help not to be caught up in the hype based on the performance, BUT... it was a  lost and the boks yet again finished third.
History will show that the boks could only must 2 wins from 6 attempts and that for a 2nd season in a row the boks are failing to live up to their potential.
Does Coetzee deserve and extended run? The answer is no, but the everybody will point back to this game and say that the boks are on track.
This was probably the all blacks worst performance, not taking away from some the of the stellar effort that the boks displayed, but Coetzee got his whole campaign wrong.
I believe if did a bit more planning and succession we could have at least ended up 2nd and perhaps walked away with a win over the all blacks.
Where did he fail in his campaign
Forwards, what is the point of selecting the likes of Bonging and Chilli boy when they hardly get any game time, same can be said of Trevor.
Back row, why on earth would you play Cassiem? We have good 8's in SA who would have done a better job. One of the unsung heroes over the last 5 season is Phillip van der walt of the sharks former cheetahs.
Half Backs, Jantjies and Cronje did okay, but the sheer stupidity in selecting Paige and Hougaard is dumb founding. We are schreuder and Lionel Cronje and even Curwin Bosh.
Pollard showed glimpses of magic, but still a player need confidence and should have never been introduced so early. Coetzee should have kept him for the final couple of rounds rather than having him warm the planks and carry tackle bags
Jess and Jan did okay, but nothing to write home about, but what about the elephant that is Damian de Allende, last week he blew a clear overlap going for glory but tucking the ball under his arm and this week he simply did a stupid follow through which could have gotten the boks closer
Where is AM, Venter and Rohan. These players should be part of squad.
Back 3, I have been a fan of Coetzee for some time now and glad that he is getting a run, but he doesn't seem to have the extra bit of magic, tries very hard but still gets nowhere. Same can be said of the wings, why persist with Rhule when you have Mpimpi who is the leading SA try scorer. Compbrink with 11 caps as well as Nkosi looking to be a rising star. These are the players that deserve to be in the squad and not some of the oxygen thieves coetzee picked

Kingcorn Coetzee has little clue. There are plain wrong selections quotas aside and you mention them.If Coetzee is wise he will take on board what Dr Venter tells him.
The wee abs faced a level of forward play they had not faced for some time. The facts are plain. The Boks deserved to win. If teh boks had played the pack they did against the wee abs they would have beaten the wobblies. No question about it.
If you factor in dropping Dreyer for Wilco and starting with a loose trio of Kolisi, Du Preez and Du Toit the woes of the wee abs pack grow significantly.
There are also backs that can be given a shot. Hopefully Pollard is on the way back.IF Coetzee gets his selections right  (Can he with quotas - he could at least minimize the damage by good selections) and listen to Brendon Venter, we could have a good year end tour. The Bok squad going to the NH must be managed here on in.

A good assesment Corn. We were unable to beat an ordinary Aussie team and now because we were in the game against NZ everything is trending up? We have a;so just dropped to 5th in the rankings. This coaching staff has to go.

At least under Piet Helium and Meyer we always came close and managed to take a few all black scalps. It should never have come to this where after 4 attempts and a massive drubbing in the first 3 that we are now world beaters.
Somebody needs to teach coetzee how to use a spread sheet or at least give him a with boards so that he can map his squad out and look at various factors.
I strongly believe that some of the useless selections such as Rhule and Cassiem came from Franco Smith.
I think that we are looking really good in our pack and we just need to get the right combos. My picked would have been
1. Beast / Kitzhoff / Du Toit / Ox 2. Marx / Bismark / Bongi (Bismark still has a lot to offer)3. Coenie / Louw / Malherbe / (Redelinghuys )4. Etzebeth / Botha / Schekeling 5. PSDT / Lomp / Mostert 6. Kolisi / Cloete / (kriel7. JL Du Preez / (PSDT) / Louw8. Phiilip van Der Walt / Du Preez (Vermeulen+Whitely)
The bracket are those that were injured or got injured, but still a decent pack to choose from with the right experience either in Super Rugby or some test caps.

Yes, Boks came third, have gone down the rankings and lost at home. I wasn’t going to bring that up but it’s all true. But we all know that it could be much worse. If the Boks had not shown that the forwards executed a good strategy effectively it would have been a morale shattering disaster. The backs are still a mess but improvements can be made. Improvements can also be made in the pack so plenty to be optimistic about. Don’t forget that the ref was blind to what was going in the ducks & this also had an impact on the game.

Agree to poor riffing too, I think the charge down on Jantjies looked off side, or Barret is simply that fast?
Skosan ran the wrong line at Cronje and probably wasn't even the intended receiver. We went from a point of scoring to losing.
The Mckenzie try was also a poor kick clearance with nobody making an effort to stop the catcher. To much ball watching rather than working on that Exit plan that dr venter keeps going on about

If you are going to kick......kick it out from inside your 22......kick for territory from your 22 to the half.....only do the cross kicks and up and unders if you can contest the ball from about 30 metres in. ... Following those simple rules could save a lot of groef.

Agree Mozart, the chasers can also use their common sense, watch the AB swamp the catching players, they have at least 5 guys on the catcher where we seem to have only 2 players back. That forces the entire team to retreat and get into a defensive / exit position or forces you to play with slow ball from just outside your 22.
If the kick is to long, simply start fanning out and press up to cut of their options.
It was a poor kick, no chase and hardly any player fanning out. It gave the wing ample room to run straight and fend a few forwards off while exploiting the space.

Corn ... you seem quite happy with a "decent" team ... would that still be the case if that decent team only managed 5th on the world rankings ... cause let's face it ... a decent team is not going to rock the world?

You have a choice ... either you commit yourself to the "decent" team and be satisfied with it's mediocre performances ... oh and that means that you're not permitted to cry when they get the ocassional 57 - 0 thrashing ... or ... you commit yourself to searching for our best.

That means no Bongi, or Bismarck, Coenie, Beast, Lood, Kolisi, Ox, Malherbe, Flouw or Vermeulen ... not to mention a host of like minded chumps in the backrow.

Oh and slotting a specialist lock in on the blindside flank is madness. Everyone was against it at one time or another ... but it seems Coetzee has won you guys over now with this stupidity.

What next ... HouGat back on the wing?

Just saying.

I get it CC, and I'm not settling for this rabble, but I do recognize our potential from Saturday's match. Imagine if we picked a proper team and get them motivated as they were on Saturday. I take my hat off for the players. Most of them stood up to be counted. Even those that's not the best gave it their all. At least there's some pride left.

I'm speaking retrospectively about what Coetzee could have done better CC. I would never settle for an average team. All players have to start some where and my point is that we simply have not given the right players the opportunity to learn and go back.
Instead we have the coaches favourites that does bugger all. This includes De Allende and Co who should not be there.
Pollard would have been better off play currie cup to get rid of rustiness and working with John Mitchel and have at least 3 first class games under his belt before he gets placed on the bench.

Pollard looks like he could be a handy 12. Jantjies is it for the time being. I think Lionel could have added value, but sadly our esteemed selectors don't agree. Same for Cloete and Jano Vermaak.

Earlier I saw some half-wits suggesting Jean-Luc du Preez should be switched to #8.
Do people forget he has a twin brother who is a natural #8 and who has performed at the same level as Jean-Luc at school, club, Currie Cup and Super R ugby level . . . but who suffered a serious injury around about the same time as Jean-Luc earned his Bok call-up?
Daniel du Preez starts at #8 for the Sharks ahead of Philip van der Walt whenever he's available. I like van der Walt (the guy Moffie said would be the world's shortest loose forward if he ever played a test match) but he's not in the same league as Dan du Preez.
Leave Jean-Luc at blindisde and leave Dan at #8 . . . and pick them both!

Rooi, I prefer Philip to Dan at 8 ATM. Philip plays 7 too. A great player, much underrated in SA. The twins' time will come, but for now PvdW's experience gives him the edge.

The two small locks....the du Preez twins are the next head fake. Expect the NH team to exploit these prenders regardless of which iteration plays for the Boks. Did you see Ioane pull away from poor du Preez......sloooooooow.

Matfield won the WC by taking down Tait in open field right at the goal line.....he would never have reversed and turned outside like Stephanie did. Look at the Stephanie incident again....he had enough time to put himself in the path of McKenzie. In the same game Danie Rossouw put Cueto into touch saving a try. .. Of course Ioane is faster than du Preez....he is 5 metres faster than any Bok on the park. But not when he is standing still as he was when he intercepted Cronje’s past....slow thinking and slow reactions left du Preez pathetically pawing at him. An immediate dive tackle would at least have slowed him up. Du Preez never even put in a whole hearted chase.
